That was not enough sleep! But it was worth it??? Somehow I finally saw a movie where a good chunk of the audience clapped at the end and it was... Until Dawn???? I was extremely confused, but I'm not here to talk about that one! Here there be spoilers~

Thunderbolts* (2025) )

When will I give up on trying Wendy's breakfast sandwiches? I keep wanting to believe, but I need to stop. Their french toast sticks and seasoned potatoes are heaven on Earth, and everything else tastes like hockey pucks, and I simply need to accept that. This is my biggest concern on this quiet working Sunday.

Went to da movies, and even though I stayed up way too late as a result, it's truly one of the only things that gets me through the week, so.

woof man (2025) )

7. What Did You Once Hate but Now Like?

You know, I really didn't get Eddie Kingston when he first came to AEW. Hate is a strong word, but I found him kinda whiny and annoying. And then this promo happened and it was like a light suddenly turned on and everything just clicked into place for me. God, I miss Eddie Kingston, PLEASE COME BACK SOON, BOO.

Honourable mention to Kate Bush. I will always remember the first time I heard Wuthering Heights, I had this very visceral 'ugh no don't like that' wince of a reaction when it started, and when it ended, I immediately hit repeat. Just some of the best worst noises ever made.

One week without my Bub. It still feels so wrong.

All the clouds got rained out yesterday, though, so I was finally able to get a clearer picture of the state of the morning/evening darkness. The walk home last night was still quite dark with just a streak of orange along the horizon, but there was a surprising amount of pre-sunrise yellow in the sky this morning, which was nice. It'll all be gone by my next work set, might as well enjoy it while I can.

Saw Joker 2! It was not a good movie! But it was a much more interesting movie than the first one was, so I kinda want to go into more, spoilery, depth than it probably deserves? It's Sunday and I'm cold and tired and sad, so fuck it, let's go.

Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) )

I managed to lose my phone in my bedding this morning, which necessitated a whole-ass search when my first alarm went off, which led to me just... being awake an hour and a half early for a fun bonus round to start my day. I did some yoga and Duolingo and puzzles and the birds were very loud and it felt GREAT and MAN I wish I was capable of doing it regularly instead of just whenever the stars and fates and REM cycles all happen to perfectly align.

More fucking around in Notion today for me, I think.

19. What Hobbies Have Been Passed Down in Your Family?

Reading, I guess? That's pretty much it, we all mostly just do our own things. I do wish I'd learned to crochet while my grandmother could still do it all the time, though.

Quick TV review since I'm still super behind on my 1001 albums:

Perry Mason (2020) Season 1: It's verrrrry Surf Dracula, especially in the first half of the season, but once John Lithgow tragically gives him his surfboard, it gets more interesting, and the central case was compelling enough throughout that I never got impatient along the way. And then it kinda fell apart in the finale! I guess I get what they were going for, subverting the tropes of the original because court cases don't work that way and real life is much more nebulous and messy and unsatisfying, but... TV should at least be satisfying, right??? I kept checking how much time was left because I didn't understand how they were gonna wrap everything up by the end, and then they just didn't really bother? Reasonable doubt wins the day over conclusive proof and some things just don't go anywhere and people will believe whatever they need to believe to be happy and hopefully our hero learned a lesson about actually trusting the process, FINE, I GUESS. Tatiana Maslany owns so hard.

Oog. So I got absolutely nothing done last night; didn't run, didn't even download Dynamite, still haven't done my naked nails (and fucking shattered one on the key cabinet as a result), I just watched the silly Halloween IWTV thing, ate a burrito and a bunch of leftover candy, and passed the fuck out with all the lights still on like I did back in high school. What a bad scene! But I at least got SOME sleep, so hopefully today will go better now that I'm a little bit more human-adjacent than I was yesterday. Turns out staying up until seven in the morning on... was it Monday? Was maybe not the smartest thing I've done in a minute!

I should do something with my email inbox today, it's getting... bad again.

But first! All the junk I took in during October. I Halloweened really badly this year!

Back to the grind! The snowing is falling hard and thick, which means it somehow still isn't THAT cold out? Windy as fuck, but still pretty mild for November, all things considered. I'll take it!

Having a tough time figuring out how we're going to see all of the movies coming out this/next week around my work schedule and mom's next round of chemo (she's FINALLY feeling a lot better, so it seems like a week and a half is the recovery period for this second set of drugs). Hopefully I don't just keep watching a ton of random shorts and tv forever!

This weather is blowing my mind; we've had plenty of frosty mornings, but walking home last night, it felt like a windy summer evening at WORST. It is October 20th! What the fuck!

Didn't get to do much with my night because I had to make my mom supper and then play Entanglement for three dang hours for the ORG, so hopefully tonight will suck a bit less. My first full week off post-vacation madness is gonna be so nice come Wednesday.

My hair is being stupid today and it's aggravating me, but a coworker brought me a cookie, which helps.

Back at work and SICK OF IT ALREADY. I think a big part of it is that I'm gonna be back in Toronto this time next week anyway, so this feels less like getting back to my life and more like a big 80-hour chore I have to get through before finishing up my vacation times? Also my grandmother's sisters are coming to town for the weekend and Thanksgiving and I'm pre-emptively exhausted by them and it was cold and frosty and foggy this morning, just a bit of sun rising in the distance and crunchy white grass and I'm so not ready to settle in for this long winter nightmare just yet.

Next week. Next week, once everything is done, then I'll get ready. Until then, I shall whine.

Mmm, okay, that almost got me to lunchtime. Six and a half more days of this to go!
merridia: (A day's work.)
Tired, but scratching along. HOTEL BOOKING TONIGHT. IT'S GOTTA HAPPEN. And hopefully I can get my weekly budget stuff done before Dynamite tonight, fuck I'm just behind on absolutely everything after the last week.

Still extremely sad about Teddy. Man I wish I was anywhere but at work right now!!

1. Do you have any currency that’s not from your native country?

I think I've got some American bills stashed away somewhere? Shit, it's been a real long time now, where did I end up putting it all??? Plus the usual assortment of fun foreign coins that regularly crossed my path that I pocketed working retail over the years when paying with cash was more of a thing.

2. Do you make changes all at once, cold turkey style, or incrementally?

Make changes? Moi? Why isn't 'poorly' an option?

To do list: pack and pray that we can actually come back on Friday. There's an injection mom will apparently need to get 24-48 hours after chemo, but we have no clue if we can have it done here or not because she hasn't been able to get ahold of anyone to ask the laundry list* of questions she has for days now. I desperately do not want to spend my weekend in Edmonton. For the packing, I've got a few hours yet, since I want to stay up to watch She-Hulk and Lower Decks before I go. But I still gotta actually do it.

One more update, first.

*fuck, I should do my laundry tonight, too

I don't think I have ever wanted to be at work less. Mom had a claustrophobia-adjacent panic attack in the bone scan machine yesterday, and she has a CAT scan and echocardiogram and oncologist meeting today to power through and I'm just... here! At work, 400 kilometres away! Sucks real bad! I had a couple of moderately stress-nausea-free days in the middle of my week off, but those are behind me once again.

Still. I got a tan and Kenny Omega back and a new phone and also Tim Hortons' new maple bacon breakfast sandwiches are so fucking good, so hey. We hang in.

merridia: (He does sleep!)
I've just been so tired all week? Falling asleep at the sort of hours I will only dream of falling asleep at on my work weeks, sleeping for ten hours a night, I truly don't know what the hell is up and I hate it, but assume I probably need it?

The cancer stuff is... what it is. Stage 3, not quite triple-negative but close enough to be treated the same, extensive scans in a couple of days to make sure it's not actually stage 4, I'm very scared all of the time and focusing on a combination of frivolous escapism and practical considerations to push through it. Don't have an official date for when mom starts chemo yet, since she hasn't had her consult with the oncologist yet, but right now we're expecting the first round somewhere around the beginning of the month, and then surgery after six months or so if all goes well? Still all very up in the air. So we keep on keeping on!

We've got not one, not two, not three, but FOUR finales in the TV section this week, I'm gonna have to get some new old stuff in the mix soon~

A chilly, foggy summer day, out of nowhere, just what I wanted. Time for another frivolous shit update, because life goes on and I am desperately trying not to think about all the foods I could be eating.

FILMS: Bullet Train, DC League of Super Pets, Prey )

SHORTS: Tord and Tord )

TELEVISION: Better Call Saul, Fuller House, GLOW, Harley Quinn, The Life Of, Marvel Studios: Assembled, Queer Eye Germany, Star Trek: Enterprise, Westworld )

Gosh, evening already? The day started off pretty shitty; I was just in a really bad mood for some reason? Every single thing I had to interact with, from Bub to the shower curtain, was just infuriating, and made me want to throw a full-on temper tantrum, but I've leveled off nicely in the hours since.

Mom's home from Edmonton, sore but okay. Seven to ten business days for biopsy results.

Going to sit down and listen to some music and think about what I want to order myself for dinner tonight. What goes best with over-the-top Elite melodrama?

3. Do you ever read the last few pages of a book first?

No, and have never even come close to understanding the appeal of doing so? Truly not a thing that it would ever even occur to me to do on my own.

Back at work after a not great week off. Just endless binge-eating, possibly out of stress over mom's ongoing medical stuff that we are still waiting for concrete answers on? Either way, I feel like utter garbage and have 80 hours of this shit to get through before I can even try recovering again on the other side, so onwards I guess??

Watched some good stuff, at least.

One of those weeks where seven days feels extremely short, so I'm gonna have to actually accomplish shit around the house to avoid blinking and being back at work with nothing to show for it, I think. That's cool, I think I can manage it.

So far I have NOT done anything beyond that barest amount of tidying, but a good night's sleep was task #1 and that's taken care of at least. I think I'm going to continue to putter around and watch stuff and read and then maybe take a bath before Dynamite? And then make an actual 'being a person' gameplan for the rest of the week.

BUT FIRST. WAY TOO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT BETTER CALL SAUL and also some other stuff, too.
