So I've been training at my new job for the past two days??? It honestly seems like it might be... pretty easy, although we'll see what I'm saying next week, when I'm cut loose on my own in a giant empty office building with three mechanics and a porter all the way down the street from the main dealership. Updates to come, I suppose?????

Saw a couple of movies. 28 Years Later was fantastic, Jurassic World Rebirth was not. F1 tomorrow night, mostly for my brother's sake, since there was a free screening of some random native romcom that my mom really wanted to go to, too.

Things are going to be pretty erratic for me until at LEAST next month, when I can (hopefully!) settle into my new position and start rearranging my entire life piece by piece, because seriously, everything has been arranged around the seven-on, seven-off for like five years now, and this is a really abrupt change!!

Haven't watched the entire show yet (or the Death Pain Invitacional, for that matter), but I did manage to squeeze in Tomohiro Ishii vs. Drilla Moloney, so I can breathe easy on that front. Whatever else may be happening in my life, at least I've got my #1 wrestling crush in the G1 to look forward to (and of course All Out, but seeing as how that's all the way on the other side of summer, I don't want it to get here too quickly).

Album #487/1001: The Associates - Sulk )

June Movie Count: 12 (Jurassic World Rebirth, 28 Years Later, 28 Weeks Later, 28 Days Later, Materialists, Cinemania, Ballerina, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Will-o'-the-Wisp, The Life of Chuck, Tetsuo: The Iron Man)

Not enough by any stretch, but I got other shit going on now I guess.

I accepted the job! Training starts on Monday? Ha ha what the fuck??? This was just supposed to be a normal week off, and now my entire life may be changing!

At least I was finally able to get a bit of basking time in; the temperature still stubbornly refuses to rise above 20 degrees, but the sun was hot and the deck shielded me from the wind, so it balanced out nicely. Takes some of the edge off, at least.

Annoyed that I'm suddenly working the day after I was supposed to be staying up late for Tomohiro Ishii vs. Drilla Moloney, though. BIG TOM YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU, BUT I'MMA NEED YOU TO LIE DOWN AND LOOK UP AT THE FUCKING LIGHTS FOR THIS ONE. I NEED DRILLA IN THE G1. I NEED IT.

NEED.

27. How Did Your Parents Teach You to Behave?

Like... methodology-wise, or what behaviours? Mostly she just taught me to think for myself.
merridia: (Default)
Somehow had a randomly eventful day before 10am??? Woke up bright and early after about four hours of sleep to head back into the Ticketmaster mines and snag good tickets for the London Dynamite, which went very smoothly. Then while I was debating going back to bed, I got a text from one of my managers asking if I could pop into work for a talk?? Which is obviously terrifying, but I figured if they were going to fire me, they probably would have done it on Tuesday, so I was probably okay.

So... I have a job offer! It's 8-5, Monday to Friday, which would kill the whole affair in its tracks if not for the fact that the pay is... a significant upgrade from the peanuts I've been making for ages now, to the tune of over 15k a year. The job sounds like a really good fit for me, which is why my manager thought of me first when he heard the position was opening up, and like... the money alone means I at least have to give it a shot, right??? It's been long enough since I've tried working regular hours, maybe I could pull it off this time???? I don't know. I just don't know! I'm all stressed out, but... not necessarily in a bad way? I told them I'd have an answer for them by tomorrow (the woman doing the job now is leaving next Friday, and I would have to train, so there's not a ton of wiggle room there), so I'll talk to my mom when she gets home and just order a burrito while I mainline lucha libre until then, I guess!!! Ha ha what the fuck!

26. What Would Your Personal Mascot Be?

Some kind of tiger that is also a burrito, and who is the cultural ambassador to some random Japanese prefecture.
merridia: (Default)
Off work. In bliss. Still waiting for summer to show up in earnest, but I had a great night's sleep, watched a ton of wrestling*, did a puzzle, and ate an entire pizza. It's 10:30 and the sun is only just going down. Will go for a quick run once I finish watching Dominion 6.15 in Osaka-jo Hall, and hopefully a torrent of Grand Slam Mexico will be up by the time I'm done (I'm still waiting for somebody to upload CMLL's weekly show from Tuesday).

Keeping my extensive collection of morning alarms set so that I'm ready for the London Dynamite presale tomorrow and I've put in my request for vacation time. Hell yeah.

Maybe I'll take a bath tonight, too.

25. What’s Your Favorite Sandwich?

The one I'm eating.

*oh my GOD free me from House of Torture's reign of terror WHY IS IT ALWAYS DRILLA WHO HAS TO TAKE A GUITAR TO THE HEAD?
merridia: (This is a song about a great folk hero.)
Slept a LOT after an early crash, which feels like a bit of a waste on the last day of the work week, but sure, I'll take it. Plenty of energy to power through this mountain of scanning, I guess.

Bruise on my thigh after a dog jumped at me on the way home last night. I wasn't even mad about it, because even in the moment, it was clearly a very friendly jump, but he was a very large dog and I keep poking it.

24. Can Creativity Be Scheduled?

No, but I do think it shows up way more often than people think it does, so if you just make the time for it on the regular, odds are pretty good. Not that I do that sort of thing anymore!

Poke poke poke. Everything is bad and the customers are difficult. Three hours until the managers are outta here, then just three more until I get to follow suit! FOR A WEEK.
merridia: (Default)
I yearn for the sun. And also sleep, but at least I know that will come in time. Just one more day. After the rest of the this one. And then rest. (I can't even blame anyone but myself for it today, I only meant to watch the first little bit of that Toru Yano vs. Super Sasandango Machine one-match crossover show before bed, and then it was an insane fever dream and I couldn't tear my eyes away (except to read along with a helpful DDT blog recap because that shit was NOT subtitled) until it was over hours later and then I still needed to shower, womp womp).

The go-home Dynamite before All Out has been announced for London (the one I was born in, not the Normal Island one), so I will definitely be booking that entire week in September off work, possibly as soon as I get home tonight. Proper travel bookings to ensue throughout the summer months. At least getting tickets should be a more chill process; the presale is on my week off, and there's less pressure to snag the best seats possible when I'll be ringside at a goddamn PPV just four days later, anyway.

23. Have You Ever Been Scammed?

Yeah. Not extensively, but feels bad.
merridia: (Default)
Thank god it's Sunday, because I got NO sleep last night. Replenished my popcorn reserves, though, and Materialists was pretty good, so hopefully the night out will be enough to carry my spirits through the rest of the week on buttery wings.

Thinking about the scrapped Amblimation CATS movie in the wake of 117 pages of character sketches from it surfacing online. We could have had it all.

AEW's been on a kick of throwing amazing old pay-per-view matches up on YouTube for everybody to see of late, so if you've got an hour to kill and want to watch two very formative bouts for me personally, might I recommend Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. The Young Bucks from Revolution 2020, which cemented my obsession with the Elite and their ridiculously dramatic bullshit which I could scream about for days, and Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay from Forbidden Door 2023, the single best match that I've gotten to see in person so far and possibly ever. They're good graps!

22. What Life Lessons Has Adversity Taught You?

That it sucks the big one (adversity or life??).

June Movie Count: 8 (Materialists, Cinemania, Ballerina, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Will-o'-the-Wisp, The Life of Chuck, Tetsuo: The Iron Man)
merridia: (Believe to my soul.)
Quiet Saturday. Very rainy, which is nice when I'm stuck indoors at work anyway. Materialists tonight. The trailers make it look like total dogshit, but the reviews are very good and I really liked Past Lives so I'm insanely curious about it! I was able to convince my mom because at the end of the day, all moms love Pedro Pascal. Halfway through the week! Less than a hundred days to All Out! Five hours to POPCORN!!!!

21. Would You Most Want to Live in a City, a Suburb or the Country?

CITY CITY CITY CITY CITY GIVE ME A BIG CITY LET ME LIIIIIIIIIIVE

June Movie Count: 7 (Cinemania, Ballerina, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Will-o'-the-Wisp, The Life of Chuck, Tetsuo: The Iron Man)
merridia: (He does sleep!)
Settling into the 'brain-death' portion of the work week. Need to snap myself out of it. Not sure if I will. Not sure if I'll be going to the movies tomorrow, either, since I'll want to see Materialists, my mom will want to see How to Train Your Dragon But It's Brown Now, and neither of us want to see the other's choice even remotely. Hopefully I can convince her to meet me in the middle and just go see the OG HTTYD, which is also playing, and in an improbably late enough slot for me to go after work. We'll see! It's Friday the 13th, why are there no horror movies out this weekend???

The temperature dropped to near freezing overnight, SUMMER WHERE ARE YOU??? I'm right here, waiting for you! If you come here, you'll find me, I promise! Fell asleep pretty early last night due to all of the exhaustion and got a solid five hours of unconsciousness in, which is still not nearly enough, but more than usual.

Album #486/1001: Primal Scream - Vanishing Point )

Still no new movies for the count, but I did start watching Kite Man: Hell Yeah!. 'S cute. And while I have not watched all of Summer Blockbuster yet (because four hours of wrestling on a Wednesday night is simply too much when I only have twelve hours between the end of one work day and the start of the next), I did watch enough to know that HANGMATT IS FINALLY BACK ON THE MENU, LET'S FUCKING GO.
merridia: (Default)
And just like that, we're back to work. I actually had a very busy week off, but naturally, I have forgotten all of it. Probably because of the lack of sleep! I napped real hard yesterday so wasn't able to even settle down to pretend to sleep until about two in the morning, but I was able to drag myself out of bed a couple of hours later regardless, and that's what really matters, right?

I managed to carve out about half an hour of deck lounger time in between the alternating rain and smoke, which is... something, I guess. Truly hurts me to feel like I'm wasting the longest days of the year, but I cannot yet control nature.

Went to the movies THREE times last week, which was wonderful for my spirit. After the Monday Mystery Movie, there was a Wednesday showing of 2001: A Space Odyssey as part of this 60th anniversary thing Landmark is doing for the rest of the year and it was amazing to see on the big screen. And then Ballerina was a lot of fun in our usual Saturday slot! A worthy addition to the 'bisexual lighting action movie' genre, a long-overdue payoff to the promise No Time to Die showed re: Ana de Armas, and I hope they make three more of them; the John Wick universe (jaywoo) and its assassin-based economy is too weird and wonderful not to keep going (I never watched The Continental because of the Mel Gibson of it all, was it any good?).

And then I found motherfucking carpet beetle worms. Four in my bathroom, one under where I keep spare blankets, a bunch under my laundry hamper in the closet. I think it's a mark of maturity that I'm not completely freaking out and burning everything when I really, really want to because oh my god I can't do this again. For now, I've just cleaned the bathroom extensively because that's the easiest room to secure and now I'll just... see if they recur and keep eliminating potential sources if so. There was a dead one in a bathroom drawer, so maybe they came from there originally (the vents, maybe??) and just spread via floordrobe (which I will obviously be cracking down on) and this will take care of the problem? Please, please, please, god.

Grabbed a couple of records in a sale and they sent me the wrong one, which is very annoying now, while I'm still waiting for the replacement of the one I most wanted (Beat the Champ, an album I loved long before I randomly became able to appreciate it on Much Deeper Levels), but will be very neat once it comes in and I will have basically gotten a free album out of the mixup. Things to look forward to! I switched this paragraph with the last one to end on a more positive note.

Album #483/1001: Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below )

June Movie Count: 6 (Ballerina, Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Will-o'-the-Wisp, The Life of Chuck, Tetsuo: The Iron Man)

I mostly just watched wrestling and Enterprise this week for some reason? Which was not as fulfilling as a variety of movies likely would have been, but Fyter Fest was great, and the episode where Trip gets Never Let Me Go'd did make me cry a tiny bit, which is very embarrassing. One week to freedom!

RIP Brian Wilson!
merridia: (Throw some glitter; make it rain.)
LAST DAY. It's been a long week for some reason. Possibly the weather? Probably the weather. I was supposed to be busting out the deck lounger right about now! I guess I'll see what the weekend brings and just kick it until then. Keep on chooglin'.

Mike Flanagan simply does not miss with Stephen King adaptations! You carve that niche for yourself, dude!

Goals for tonight: Do my nails, finally finish X-Men '97, and a run. Can I do it? I wanna do it!

The cold is continuing, and morale is not improving! I guess that beats being on fire like the rest of the world MUST be to keep blowing all of this smoke on us, but nevertheless, I bleh. Hopefully bailing on work early to go to the movies tonight will help. Save me, mystery movie! And buy my bullshit, coworkers!

A smoky, cold, rainy start to the month, happy pride I guess!! At least we got some beautiful thunderstorms last night and my jeans weren't wet for too long this morning. Think I'm absolutely going to feign an emergency and bail an hour early tomorrow night to go to the movies if my mom's up to it, though; hopefully telling her what I think the mystery movie is will provide enough motivation. Just gotta make it through the next few days!

20. How Much Information Is ‘Too Much Information’?

It truly depends on who you're talking to, doesn't it? The thresholds are wildly different for your doctor and your Uber driver.

FINAL MAY MOVIE COUNT: 37 (Mifune, Thief, The Cry of Granuaire, Lured, Out of Here, Hannah and Her Sisters, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, The Insider, River of Grass, Strip Nude for Your Killer, Kaili Blues, The Last of the Mohicans, Death Walks at Midnight, Deep Red, Bring Her Back, Final Destination Bloodlines, The Image You Missed, Don't Torture a Duckling, The Assassin, Who Saw Her Die?, Trenque Lauquen, Amadeus x2, Clown in a Cornfield, Torso, The Best Way to Walk, Donnie Darko, Mind Game, A Fish Called Wanda, All the Colors of the Dark x2, Thunderbolts*, Until Dawn, What Have They Done to Your Daughters? x2, The Fog)

Also, Short Films: 16 (Classified People, Fannie's Film, A Slice of Lynch, Nana, Lacuna, Killing Time, Pete, Pauline Alone, Meet Marlon Brando, The Red Tree, Green Bush, Yudie, It Happens to Us, Chris and Bernie, Betty Tells Her Story, Hot Ticket)

Overall, I think my attempt to watch more movies last month was a resounding success, I saw lots of really good shit (as well as a couple of real duds), and I'm going to try to keep it going! Lotta giallo. Lotta Michael Mann. One really long Argentinian movie. A bunch of rewatches, too. I've fallen waaaaaay behind on TV shows, though, so I'm going to have to strike more of a balance in June. And also catch up on BOSJ before I get spoiled for the winner, somehow.
merridia: (Sigh.)
Feeling... blank. It's the weekend, which is nice, but it's still smoky and I'm still cold, and we're not even going to the movies this week because mom doesn't want to see anything so I don't even get my usual Saturday reprieve. There is a Monday Mystery Movie coming up, and I'm like 90% sure it's something my mom really wants to see, but I don't know if I can get away with leaving work early when I already showed up late on Wednesday. Maybe I'll just claim an emergency, ugh. I gotta get out!!!

It's one of those days where every 'good morning' feels like a personal attack. It's been so hot and beautiful outside, which has, naturally, meant freezing in a horrible artificial icebox all day while everyone coming in from outside tells me how good it feels and I try not to stab them in the face with my pen, and it's so smoky today that I can't even spend my lunch break outside in the sunshine unless the wind performs some miracles in the next six hours. Also I somehow lost my wired earbuds with the dongle because heaven forbid phones have headphone jacks these days and I am mad about everything, so I am simply going to cast my mind back to the weekend, and the emotional catharsis that was Double or Nothing.

AEW Double or Nothing 2025 )

it's almost lunchtime so I'm not reading over that, hopefully it's not gibberish!!! HALFWAY THERE

Back at work. Slept weird. Somehow got front row tickets to All Out, though, which is pretty much all that matters in the world? Even if I need to eat nothing but cups of noodles and canned soup for the foreseeable future to make sure I can afford the trip. Some hot sauce can really jazz up one of those cups, anyway!

Album #482/1001: Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion )

May Movie Count: 32 (Out of Here, Hannah and Her Sisters, Amadeus (director's cut this time; it's not as tight but I do like the additional context of the extra scenes), What Have They Done to Your Daughters? (but with the English dub this time), Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, The Insider, River of Grass, Strip Nude for Your Killer, Kaili Blues, The Last of the Mohicans, Death Walks at Midnight, Deep Red, Bring Her Back, Final Destination Bloodlines, The Image You Missed, Don't Torture a Duckling, The Assassin, Who Saw Her Die?, Trenque Lauquen, Amadeus, Clown in a Cornfield, Torso, The Best Way to Walk, Donnie Darko, Mind Game, A Fish Called Wanda, All the Colors of the Dark, Thunderbolts*, Until Dawn, What Have They Done to Your Daughters?, The Fog)

The week off is half over, and I'm feeling like a person again! There's lots to do and lots I've already done. Mostly recently, ducked over to the movies to see the Mission: Impossible franchise off into the sunset (WHIGHAM HIVE RISE UP), and while that live action Lilo & Stitch looks like the typical Disney infinite-money glitch dreck they will keep pumping out until standards improve, gosh it's nice to see a packed cinema again. We're so back!!!

Tomorrow will be for visiting my grandmother and then getting drunk enough that I won't be able to go out and commit arson if Hangman doesn't win the Double or Nothing main event. You know, typical weekend stuff!

Album #481/1001: Tim Buckley - Happy Sad )

May Movie Count: 28 (Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, The Insider, River of Grass, Strip Nude for Your Killer, Kaili Blues, The Last of the Mohicans, Death Walks at Midnight, Deep Red, Bring Her Back, Final Destination Bloodlines, The Image You Missed, Don't Torture a Duckling, The Assassin, Who Saw Her Die?, Trenque Lauquen, Amadeus, Clown in a Cornfield, Torso, The Best Way to Walk, Donnie Darko, Mind Game, A Fish Called Wanda, All the Colors of the Dark, Thunderbolts*, Until Dawn, What Have They Done to Your Daughters?, The Fog)

ALL OUT IN TORONTO THIS YEAR, EAT IT CHICAGO. YOU GET YOUR POPE, WE GET YOUR PPV, THAT WAS THE DEAL. It'll be coming right after Forbidden Door and the Philly 2300 Arena residency, too, so it could be a very interesting show! I've got exactly one week to prepare for ticket sales and then exactly four months to prepare for my first (possibly only?) proper trip of the year so LET'S FUCKING GO.

For now though, I've got four hours left in my work week and mom birthday shit to figure out aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

Chill Sunday. Chilly, but chill. I'm less annoyed by everything than I was yesterday, possibly because it's dead quiet so I'm basically being paid for attendance. Twelve long hours of attendance. Gonna ask my mom if she'll pick me up on my lunch break and give me a ride downtown so I can get that package waiting for me; it had better be the cute wrestling merch, I can't think of any other package I'm expecting that I'd be willing to pay $25 in duty fees on. And I need to order movie tickets for tomorrow and also figure out what the hell I'm doing for my mom's birthday on Wednesday??? Ugh, the inexorable march of time kicks my ass a little bit harder every year.

17. Would You Consider Moving Overseas for a Job?
