merridia: (Throw some glitter; make it rain.)
Last day of this confusing hell week! WHY is it so insanely busy??? I'm gonna make it, though! It started to rain a bit on my way here. Almost all of the snow is gone. We're all gonna make it.

13. Who in Your Life Introduces You to New Music?

MOSTLY it's some fuckass website feeding me a list of 1001 albums, but also podcasts and the radio and whatever remnants of the old blogosphere are still left standing. Fluxblog has a newsletter now! And did you know most decent/interesting radio stations have apps these days? And of course, I'm hardly immune to the charms of the Spotify algorithm; it does occasionally surface decent stuff amidst all the slop, even if my listening habits make it hard for it to get a handle on what I'm actually into. Also Hangman Page, for some reason???
merridia: (He does sleep!)
work still busy, why work busy? :(

already almost lunch time, the time when I go sit in the lunch room and if I'm really lucky nobody bothers me for an hour straight

back now

still busy

urge to get home and just play some random game until the morning is rising

ONE MORE DAY.

12. Do/Did You Collect Anything?

Sure! Pokemon cards, Criterion disks, unplayed Steam games, regrets. Lots of things!
merridia: (Blame the alien)
Happy Easter, it fucking snowed again. I am ignoring WrestleMania after the big WWE 'we love rapists and our president' whirlwind press blitz of the last few days served as the last five nails in the coffin of my being able to consume their content without getting overwhelmed by moral ick. They're already back on their monopoly kick what with buying out AAA, hopefully they don't scoop up GCW, too, like it really seems they might; Big Gay Brunch and the Clusterfuck were the only things to make last night palatable, wrestling-wise.

Actually got a decent night's sleep, having had one of my rare crash nights after eating way too much Indian food. My stomach's bothering me today, though. Work remains crazy, and I really wish I could celebrate 4/20 properly this year to offset it. Will have to settle for making perogies and watching an episode of Twin Peaks and reminding myself that I've only got two more days of work before my week off and random trip to Edmonton to go watch David Lynch movies. And then come back to work just in time for month end, I guess. Gross.

I have somehow been here for four hours already. I have accomplished... nothing. Okay, time to try not being a lump for a little while.

11. Have You Ever Experienced Food Insecurity?

I don't think so? It's tough to say, because we were very poor when I was a kid, but my mom did a pretty good job of shielding me from the worst of it. I ate a lot of shitty food, but I'm pretty sure we never went hungry.
merridia: (Default)
Cracking open The Count of Monte Cristo on a lovely Saturday morning at work, as one does. My day off for Jesus was very nice; lunch with the family followed by Sinners, which is, in fact, my favourite movie of the year to date, followed by a trip to Mac Island to do some voting and then McDonald's and an episode of Dark Side of the Ring before toddling off to bed and staying up way too late anyway. And now it's the weekend! Hopefully it'll be a chill one.

10. What Have You Made Yourself?

I'M TRYING TO WRITE AGAIN, LEAVE ME ALONE.

Remember two years ago, when Hangman stuck a crown of thorns on Adam Cole's head in a Texas Death Match on Good Friday? lol that ruled
merridia: (Believe to my soul.)
Maundy Thursday! I stayed up too late again watching more Sakura Genesis, but I've only got the main event left! Yota Tsuji pulling out twin magic at the most random, unexpected times is so goddamn funny to me. Also finished Daredevil: Born Again and have a surprising amount of feelings about it:

i guess i'll put a spoiler cut here for a couple things )

Off tomorrow because Easter, which I completely forgot about and am very grateful for (anything to break up the work week, man). Going to have lunch with my grandmother and then go see Sinners. For Jesus.

9. What Is Your Racial and Ethnic Identity?

White and French and that's about it.
merridia: (Default)
Back to work, it's snowing, and CDK is down across North America. Great. Just awesome. It's only Wednesday and my eyes already hurt, but that probably has more to do with the part where I stayed up until one in the morning watching the first half of Sakura Genesis (only ten days late, whatever). I am very sad about El Phantasmo and the War Dogs both losing their title matches, even if I expected it (I love Great-O-Khan, too, so I can't be MAD about the TV title changing hands, and Sanada joining House of Torture was somehow the only thing I was spoiled for, so as soon as his match was the opener I just assumed he'd cost them the trios title BUT HE STILL DIDN'T HAVE TO DO MY MAN DRILLA LIKE THAT).

I wish I was still at home with my new keyboard, forever.

8. What Childhood Rules Did You Break?

If you're breaking them all the time, then they're not very good rules, are they? I didn't really have many to begin with, I was just... good, idk. I guess I watched Power Rangers sometimes when my mom didn't want me to?

Oh, good, CDK is back online. I can work again. :(
merridia: (This is a song about a great folk hero.)
Back to work tomorrow. Going to do a big ol' nonogram and try to motivate myself to change the bedsheets and actually finish my laundry so I have something to wear. Maybe. We'll see. Motivation is tough to scrape together at the moment.

Album #469/1001: Sugar - Copper Blue )

I have finished my nonogram. It was a picture of a fat business pigeon. If I can get my bed stripped and go check the mail, I will reward myself with El Desperado vs. Clark Connors at Jr. Genesis. Baby rhino's first deathmatch!! I can do this!!!
merridia: (Sigh.)
I am head over heels in love with my new keyboard; I'd been struggling along with a really low-profile lightweight job since I rearranged my bedroom last year and I genuinely had such a hard time with it and was not getting any better, and now typing is an absolute dream. Easily the best purchase I've made in a minute. I was obviously being facetious when I said it would help with my writer's block, but like... MAN, MAYBE??? Typing is such a joy now, I want any excuse to do more of it!

Like this entry! I've got nothing going on. I'm just watching one of the Road to Sakura Genesis shows as the sun goes down. There are just a few stray patches of snow left here and there, and I didn't even need a jacket to go check the mail earlier. Spring may be disgusting, but at least it's finally here. I think working over the weekend broke my wiring a bit, between my body and my subconscious, something in here just doesn't understand whether it's my week off or my week on or what, so I just feel kinda weird. At least I have one more day to chill and recover before going back for realsies. I should take a bath tonight now that my period is over.

Album #468/1001: Anthrax - Among the Living )
merridia: (He does sleep!)
Twelve more hours of sitting around and getting paid extra for it, I've just gotta keep reminding myself of all the unsustainably frivolous spending I've been doing of late to make it worth it. I'll have the night to myself afterward and then two more days of rest and relaxation and maybe a couple of Sakura Genesis shows before getting back to the grind for realsies. That's not so bad! Right??? It does not help that I couldn't get to sleep last night for the life of me. I'm all outta wack.

New keyboard came in. It's a nice one, even if the switches I wanted cost an extra sixty bucks in import fees for some reason so I had to settle for the Marble Whites. Surely THAT will help me overcome my writer's block!

Ran out of Anne of Green Gables books (unless anyone has copies of Before Green Gables and The Blythes are Quoted that they want to send me, all the other ones were public domain and easy to find lol), so I'm reading Emily of New Moon at work as a sort of wholesome, PEI-based methadone.

The radio has reminded me that I really need to sit down with the new Lady Gaga album already.

Hotel for Edmonton has been booked and I was able to pay for the whole thing with points, so that's another burden dodged, even if I didn't spend enough to get my $100 travel voucher for the year. All the more reason to find my DAMN PASSPORT.

7. What Are Your Best Sleepover Memories?

Nothing really concrete, it's all just a sort of gently nostalgic slurry of SNES games and Beanie Babies and bunk beds and overprotective parents getting mad at me for reading too-scary stories. I want to go back. Getting back into collecting Pokemon cards has helped.
merridia: (Blame the alien)
At work on my week off like a SUCKER. My eyes hurt, and I'm taking it EASY. The way I see it, the first four hours are free parking, since I would just be sleeping, anyway. After that, I will read for a little while and maybe break my diet to order something tasty. Then I can fuck around with Notion for the last third of the day and book a hotel room for my Lynch weekend, hopefully not feel like it was all a total waste of my time (money or not, having a job is a waste of time, idgaf), and then do it all again tomorrow! Like a SUCKER.

It's chilly and rainy outside, but I wore a long-sleeved shirt to work so am stubbornly refusing to bust out a sweater as well.

The Amateur tonight. It looks generic as fuck and it's on super late and is like two hours long, but we takes what we can gets. NEED MOOBIE.

6. Do You See Great Disparities of Wealth in Your Community?

Not since they bulldozed the tent city! Though I do still get to spend my days serving a whole lot of people who make many times as much money as I do.
merridia: (Throw some glitter; make it rain.)
Completely wasted the day, probably because I'm going in to work tomorrow and the futility of life in general is just pressing in all around me as a result. At least at time-and-a-half, I'll be making a decent wage for a change, and we'll go see a movie afterward, so it shouldn't be too soul-crushing. It'll definitely make my next proper set that much more unbearable, however.

Album #467/1001: ABC - The Lexicon of Love )

I should do my nails tonight. Head into the battle well-armed.
merridia: (A day's work.)
This week is going to fly by, even before you bring the fact that I'm working over the weekend into it. My period is kicking my ass, and I had to finally give in and turn on the air conditioning because it's begun to hit double digits outside and the sun is turning my bedroom into a greenhouse. Gonna finally finish up last month's New Japan Cup tonight; Shota vs. Finlay is certainly one of the finals of all time, I suppose.

Hopefully a run will sort me out. Once things cool down just a bit more, lest I die.

Album #466/1001: Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water )
merridia: (It's all about flow.)
Drop is a pretty dumb movie that takes itself juuuuuust as seriously as it needs to, and I had a lot of fun with it. Glad I bounced on work early to refill my popcorn reserves and have a pulpy good time, except then I agreed to work this coming Saturday and Sunday to make up for it, ugh. My sleep shall suffer, but it's not like any managers will be around, so it's basically 24 hours' worth of easy overtime and maybe a bit of future goodwill for when I inevitably continue to pull shit like that all the time (I'm off for Double or Nothing, but working for Y'all In YEAH THAT'S NOT HAPPENING).

No fun mail yesterday, but I did get my stupid Super Yaqi order in the day before. Maybe I'll wear my new gay Night at the Museum shirt to work my overtime when nobody's looking. WHAT WILL ARRIVE TODAY??

It rained quite a bit last night, and today was the first morning where the temperature was still above freezing when I left the house, so the remaining snow should not be long for the world. GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE.

Realized I'm going to be on a bus all night after watching a bunch of David Lynch movies in Edmonton on election day, oops. Time to look into the advance polling dates, I guess!

5. Do You Have Siblings? How Well Do/Did You Get Along With Them?

One large adult half-brother. He's alright. Very loud.
merridia: (Default)
It's Monday! I watched almost six hours of wrestling last night and ate a really spicy burger! I need to ask a manager if I can leave a little bit early today, too (to see a movie this time), but I'm scurrrrrrred. The spring melt is upon us. Anyway!

AEW Dynasty 2025 )

Okay, I have successfully lobbied my manager to leave an hour early for... reasons. Monday Mystery Movie, here I come!

I really need to buy paid time again. I need more wrasslin' icons.
merridia: (There Stands the Glass)
Happy Dynasty day! I don't think Swerve is winning, but I remain hopeful for lots of drama regardless! Leaving work three and a half hours early to make it home for the pre-show and I have zero regrets about it. I also need to hit up the PWT sale to pick up the new Hangman and Lee Moriarty shirts, and maybe a Bullet Club hoodie while I'm at it, even though I only really care about the War Dogs at the moment, and even then, mostly just because Drilla does it for me. THE RECKLESS SPENDING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES. Leaves is plants, and flowers is, too.

For now, I am simply chilly and counting the hours. I should try to do... something productive, at least for a little while. Don't wanna, though!

4. What Nicknames Have You Ever Gotten or Given?

Started going by Merr among close friends in high school, based on my LJ username. A few people have tried to make 'Lesh' happen over the years, which I generally do not care for. Nowadays, I obviously only answer to The Lucha Whore.

A decent night's sleep with a baaaad wakeup. Every hit of the snooze button is taking another roll of the REM dice, and sometimes you just lose.

Spent all day yesterday thinking about making perogies when I got home only to find there were only FIVE left, which was a crushing disappointment, but I made them anyway and also some noodles and just threw it all in a bowl together and it was actually great, so I WIN, ACTUALLY. They were softer than I prefer owing to them soaking up all the spicy noodle sauce while they mingled, but extremely goddamn delicious.

Halfway through the current season of Yellowjackets and yeah, it's losing me fast. Also listened to another random Spanish album which was very chill and cool because I am decidedly not looking forward to what I pulled next in the 1001.

Not sure what's going to be on the docket tonight. Maybe soup and a video game. Until then, I'm going to shop for shoes and get paid for it because I didn't get any fun mail yesterday and there are no managers around on weekends to give me dirty looks for it.

3. Have You Ever Been in Love?

Nah.
merridia: (pic#15058178)
Day 3! Looking forward to the weekend! But not as much as I'm looking forward to the one three weeks after this one, for which I have successfully booked bus tickets to Edmonton and bought a whole bunch of movie tickets. All that's left is to decide if I want to try and impose on my aunt and her hell dog for a place to crash, or if I'm willing to drop $500 for a room at the nearby Holiday Inn. It's not like I've got any other trips to save up for in the immediate future? The peace might be worth it? I will continue to mull it over.

Another chilly day, but at least the sidewalks are clear and I'm able to cross the field on my way home, significantly shortening the journey once again because the snow is no longer thigh-high. Just ankle-high!

Last night's noodles were delicious, the random Spanish pop album I put on was enjoyable, and the episode of Enterprise I watched was perfectly serviceable, even if that season three retooling of the opening theme makes me want to die. And I pulled another Night Wanderer art card! I crashed early and slept... oddly, in a series of one-hour chunks punctuated by some wild-ass dreams. I think I got a decent six hours or so in total, though.

Every day can be a good mail day when you spend beyond your means! Yesterday I got an issue of the Onion and couple of new Criterion discs (Lost Highway, which I will be getting to see in a theatre later this month, and Perfect Days, which I saw in Quebec City with French subtitles and absolutely adored). What will there be when I get home today???

Also hit up the GOG spring sale for round three, lured in once again by a super cheap Soul Reaver. At least now I can finally play Disco Elysium (you weebs).

2. How Good Are You at Time Management?

Mmm, I don't think I'm necessarily bad at it, I just... wish to do way more than there exists time for, so I never feel like I'm using it adequately, either.
merridia: by <user name=ancientgate> (International politics.)
Back at work, where everybody is just coughing, constantly. I'm cold, and tired, and hungry, but possibly in a better mood than yesterday despite all that? Uncertain. At least I've only had one customer so far, things got pretty crazy yesterday.

Not to be overly dramatic, but the Owen Hart Cup finals being in Arizona this year is a personal attack and the worst thing that has ever happened to anyone in history, and not having a SINGLE Canadian in the tournament is worse than anything happening politically in the world right now.

On the less-facetious side, the confirmation that I likely don't have any wrestling trips to plan for any time soon has alleviated my guilt over spending a sizable chunk of my afternoon yesterday planning a sudden pilgrimage to Edmonton to see a bunch of David Lynch movies later this month. I think I will book some bus tickets today. Sometimes a random marketing email from Cineplex can really derail your day, what can I say!

Need to finally get off my ass and look into locking in an electricity contract, if only so I can stop getting fucking emails from our idiot government bullying me into it with their latest corporate jargon. It should end up being cheaper for me regardless, but god the UCP are scum.

Also still need to find my passport. For Reasons.

Album #465/1001: The Everly Brothers - A Date with the Everly Brothers )

Tonight: Some extra-hot ramen and an episode of Enterprise, and I'm going to leave my planning at that.
merridia: (Default)
Back to work on about three hours of sleep, and I already know that it's going to be one of those days where everyone and everything just pisses me off incessantly, even the rare handful who don't deserve it. Need to ask a manager about leaving early on Sunday for Dynasty, so I'll have to scour the bitchface off regardless.

It wasn't quite -20 degrees out this morning, but it was still cold enough to increase my general despondency. We got a huge dump of snow yesterday to ring in April, which at least covered up the worst of the muck before it all froze overnight, I guess? Going to be hell when it melts, though.

No movies to see this weekend. :( Since I actively do not want to see either Snow White or Minecraft, I was really counting on The Alto Knights playing for longer than two weeks. SILLY ME, I GUESS. There's a Monday Mystery Movie I'd love to do instead, but asking to leave an hour early when I'm already taking several hours on the weekend to watch wrestling (even if I'm not telling them that part) feels like a stretch. Maybe I'll do it anyway, though! The perks of truly not giving a fuck about your job anymore?

Got halfway through the New Japan Cup semifinals and will have to leave it at that for now, since I know that I can only realistically keep up with AEW/ROH while I'm working, especially on a PPV week. I'm less invested with both Drilla and Zack out of the running, anyway. I guess I'm rooting for Shingo to win it at this point? It'll probably be Shooter, though, bleh. His new jacket potato look is (surprisingly) winning me over, at least. Except he did already main event Wrestle Kingdom this year, could he get Sakura Genesis too?? Surely there's no way Finlay's taking it, right??? This all happened weeks ago, I'm very impressed with my ability to avoid spoilers of late.

Owen Cup Tournament brackets are being announced tonight. Hopefully I'll get a nice July 9th Calgary Dynamite out of it. A full year without seeing any wrestling live! I am bereft!

Mantlo/Lee-era Alpha Flight is getting an omnibus next year. Truly never thought I would ever see the day! To be clear, these are not good comics, and their treatment of some characters is legitimately offensive, but gosh I have a fondness for that crazy stretch where the entire team consisted of Heather, Madison, and Wanda. A problematic fav for sure, can't wait for it to make it to my bookshelves.

Album #464/1001: The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury )

Ten more hours until I can go home, make myself a tasty dinner, do some yoga, and watch Daredevil. It's not much, but it's enough for now.
merridia: (pic#7178245)
Monday already. Tragic. I'm feeling alright though; it's beautiful outside and I got some good mail and I'm up to the quarterfinals in the New Japan Cup (Drilla my love) and I think I'm going to order myself a tasty wrap for supper and put on an episode of Arcane. Tomorrow it will be April, and then I will go back to work. Going to try and make the most of the hours in the meantime. There Will Be Baths.
