Summer 2022 - Week 10
To do list: pack and pray that we can actually come back on Friday. There's an injection mom will apparently need to get 24-48 hours after chemo, but we have no clue if we can have it done here or not because she hasn't been able to get ahold of anyone to ask the laundry list* of questions she has for days now. I desperately do not want to spend my weekend in Edmonton. For the packing, I've got a few hours yet, since I want to stay up to watch She-Hulk and Lower Decks before I go. But I still gotta actually do it.
One more update, first.
FILMS
The Invitation (2022): Pretty bad, but pretty fun, we giggled a lot through this thing. Anyway, the most important thing when it comes to vampire movies is how horny it is, and this was... adequately horny, even if it takes them a really long time to get to the vampire factory, and once you're there, it's annoyingly unclear on the logistics until you figure them out for yourself, and also the ending is framed as a fun 'vampire hunter' angle except there are none left, so it's really just 'rich asshole hunter', which... on second thought, is much better, make that movie. Also: ANOTHER goddamn 'mom dead of cancer' protagonist!
SHORTS
Media Man (1994): That sure was a lot of media, man.
TELEVISION
Fuller House 5x05: This week: DJ catfishes her son but also it's Rocket League product placement? This is fine. I'm Fine.
Grace and Frankie 6x05: "You slept with her?" "Wow, you got there fast!" made me laugh stupid hard, poor precious fuckup Coyote.
Heels 1x02: A WOMAN DID A HURRICANRANA IN A BAR FIGHT, THIS IS THE GREATEST SHOW EVER. Also having her and Ace playing Cuphead in bed for that one scene was such a strange choice.
Minx 1x02: leave me alone
Orange is the New Black 7x06: How dare they make me care about Cindy like that! HOW DARE. SHE'S THE WORST. But damn, that was still a quiet gut punch of an ending.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law 1x02: I like the way this plays with and integrates the timelines of the 2021 movies a bit, since they've all been so disparate of late (not a complaint). Jen's split-second glance at the camera at the stupid meta line about Bruce's different actors was fantastic. Bets on how long we continue to get X-Men teases before something actually starts to happen with them? I say two years, but maybe Wakanda Forever surprises.
Star Trek: Lower Decks 3x01: It's back! And it took me about half the episode to once again get used to the breakneck pacing of the dialogue, which I think I might really hate? It's so awkward and unnatural feeling, but once I found the groove again, I was good to go. This was exactly the sort of "actually, the real Star Trek show is happening over there somewhere and these guys are completely unaware of it most of the time" adventure that I crave from this premise.
