Summer 2022 - Week 8
I've just been so tired all week? Falling asleep at the sort of hours I will only dream of falling asleep at on my work weeks, sleeping for ten hours a night, I truly don't know what the hell is up and I hate it, but assume I probably need it?
The cancer stuff is... what it is. Stage 3, not quite triple-negative but close enough to be treated the same, extensive scans in a couple of days to make sure it's not actually stage 4, I'm very scared all of the time and focusing on a combination of frivolous escapism and practical considerations to push through it. Don't have an official date for when mom starts chemo yet, since she hasn't had her consult with the oncologist yet, but right now we're expecting the first round somewhere around the beginning of the month, and then surgery after six months or so if all goes well? Still all very up in the air. So we keep on keeping on!
We've got not one, not two, not three, but FOUR finales in the TV section this week, I'm gonna have to get some new old stuff in the mix soon~
FILMS
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022): I don't think anything has ever made me instantly root for someone in a movie as much as Pete Davidson's character trying to argue that he is hotter than Lee Pace's character, like damn little dude, good for you, believe that impossible dream. Inspirational stuff, truly. Anyway, is good movie! Turns out a cheat code for getting around the usual annoying horror movie dumb-dumbs is to simply start the movie by having all your characters get very drunk and high! It truly covers for a multitude of sins! Predictable ending, but getting there was pretty fun.
SHORTS
Born to Film (1982): "She went crazy before she died." A little long for my tastes (which have a very low tolerance for this sort of home-movie kind of doc), but the intercutting between the generations was very effective.
TELEVISION
Better Call Saul 6x13: It was perfect.
Fuller House 5x03: I feel such guilt whenever this show makes me laugh. Or is it shame? Some combination of the two? Shuilt?
GLOW 3x10: ARGH I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY CANCELLED IT WITH SO MUCH UP IN THE AIR FFS. I also can't believe this isn't the first wrestling-themed adaptation of A Christmas Carol that I've ever seen.
I Am Groot 1x01-1x05: Cute! Aggressively so! This feels like the most cynical thing Disney has yet done with Marvel, so we'll see if it can hold the line against the X-Men nostalgia project waiting in the wings with a baseball bat.
Marvel Studios: Legends 1x21: Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce <333333
Queer Eye Germany 1x05: Okay, NOW I am all out of wholesome schlock to warm my cold, dead heart. I NEED a second season of this, and hopefully the Queer Eye Brazil crew manages to be even half as delightful as the Fab Fünf.
Star Trek: Enterprise 1x05: Five goddamn episodes in and Trip has already accidentally fucked an alien and gotten pregnant, are you KIDDING me.
Westworld 4x08: I don't care if nobody's watching it anymore, please don't cancel this show on 'robots destroyed the world', WB.
