For the second year in a row, I have had to spend a solid chunk of Christmas consoling my deeply upset family and getting everybody back on board in lieu of cancelling all plans to stay in everyone's respective bedrooms to sulk instead. This time around everyone was openly weeping over a confrontation that, as best as I was able to figure out after the fact, started with some dishes left in the sink. I really just fucking hate Christmas, you guys. I'm so tired. We're all so tired.
But we made it! We ordered Chinese food to open presents with my grandmother downtown and read some old Trivial Pursuit questions for a little while, and it was quiet and low-key, but I kept everyone from melting down again and spirits were... okay. Mom still feels like garbage from her last pointless round of chemo, and we continue to just not directly address my grandmother's increasing slide into dementia, but it was a fine afternoon out. Now I just gotta make sure nothing goes off the rails for Christmas dinner tonight, but I've still got a couple of hours until my brother's off work and I have to start worrying about it. Hopefully. We'll see.
