[167] no time to sleep 'cause if you sleep you don't eat
For the second year in a row, I have had to spend a solid chunk of Christmas consoling my deeply upset family and getting everybody back on board in lieu of cancelling all plans to stay in everyone's respective bedrooms to sulk instead. This time around everyone was openly weeping over a confrontation that, as best as I was able to figure out after the fact, started with some dishes left in the sink. I really just fucking hate Christmas, you guys. I'm so tired. We're all so tired.
But we made it! We ordered Chinese food to open presents with my grandmother downtown and read some old Trivial Pursuit questions for a little while, and it was quiet and low-key, but I kept everyone from melting down again and spirits were... okay. Mom still feels like garbage from her last pointless round of chemo, and we continue to just not directly address my grandmother's increasing slide into dementia, but it was a fine afternoon out. Now I just gotta make sure nothing goes off the rails for Christmas dinner tonight, but I've still got a couple of hours until my brother's off work and I have to start worrying about it. Hopefully. We'll see.

Wikipedia Sez: Like Water for Chocolate is the fourth studio album by American rapper Common, released on March 28, 2000, through MCA Records. It was Common's first major label album and was both a critical and commercial breakthrough, receiving widespread acclaim from major magazine publications and selling 70,000 copies in its first week. The album was certified Gold on August 11, 2000, by the Recording Industry Association of America. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album had sold 748,000 copies by March 2005. The video for "The Light" was frequently shown on MTV, adding to Common's exposure. The album also formally marked the formation of the Soulquarians, a collective composed of Questlove (of The Roots), Jay Dee (formerly of Slum Village), keyboardist James Poyser, soul artist D'Angelo and bassist Pino Palladino, among numerous other collaborators. This group of musicians would also be featured on Common's next album, Electric Circus.
Genre: Rap
Styles: Midwest Rap, Jazz-Rap, Alternative Rap
Prior Familiarity: None.
What I Did While Listening: Coloured some pictures of dragons while slowly gathering up all the pieces of myself that I'll need to tackle Christmas Round Two.
Verdict: Getting two Common albums a few days apart isn't quite as crazy as the time I got two R.E.M. albums in a row, but it's still kinda weird! Anyway, I think overall I liked Be more, but the highs on this one were higher to go with a couple of lower lows.
Favourite Song: The 6th Sense, with an honourable mention to Payback is a Grandmother for that perfectly deployed bucket of ice-cold water that is the ending.
