Fall Season: Week 2
Sep. 16th, 2019 08:42 pmAt work, desperately shoveling grapes into my face to stave off the urge to order food. It's not working. I still want a burrito. I want a burrito so damn bad, you guys.
Today's distraction topic is ethical consumerism! I don't really do it! Like, I know Amazon is terrible and contributing pretty heavily to the ruination of both the world writ large and the individual lives of so many people toiling in the shadows of Mechabezos, but... I still order so much shit from Amazon. Shit I need, shit I don't need so much, shit I COULD get elsewhere, just more expensive and slower, shit I could get in town but more expensive and also I don't drive, but I don't, and I feel bad about it, but not bad enough to stop? It's just so tough to override the satisfaction of convenience with things like logic! Like, on Friday night, I decided to buy a Roku, and on Sunday, a box showed up at my doorstep with a little stick inside, and then I plugged the stick into my TV and now I can watch anything on it and every step in that process is basically magic to my lizard brain???
I don't have any solutions! I just suck! I also hate the way the burden of saving the world is put on consumers when really, there's jack shit we can do compared to the megacorps wrecking shit up on pretty much inconceivable levels! But is that really a good excuse to do nothing? Of course not! And yet, here I am, not doing shit and playing right into the the system, anyway. And since I don't want to start bitching about straws, I'll leave that there.
Finished season two of Zombies, Run!, which was neat. With a bit of imagination, that shit makes me feel like a goddamn action hero like nothing else. Except now I've got all the side missions to get through before I start season three, and whenever the traitor is in one of them it's like being STABBED IN THE BACK ALL OVER AGAIN, I TRUSTED YOU, YOU FUCK.
I love my new Roku!! It definitely has me wanting to collect all the streaming services available (I won't, I still have SOME principles, but I for sure get the appeal more with them all neatly assembled and ready to go like that), but Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Criterion are more than enough of a commitment for me for now. Still waiting to hear whether or not Disney+ will get bundled with anything else up here before I make a final call on that one when the time comes. Whether something I already get, like Spotify, or something otherwise worth getting, like Crave, just. SOMETHING. Ha ha the future of television is so broken! But seriously, how is Shudder?
Okay, less than an hour to go and then I'm free to go home and make some food (no, never mind, I have to take mom to the other end of town to shop for a walker after work, I'll probably end up driving through somewhere, but at least I can make her pay for it in that case) and stop thinking about burritos, time for the movie spoiler zone! Except with nothing currently in theatres because I saw It last weekend because it's toooo fucking loooooong for my Wednesday night usual.
( Watched this week: Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway, Kaili Blues, Sightseers, Room at the Top, La veuve Courdec, Fiddler on the Roof, High Noon )
oh shit i still gotta do my cash out
