[094] The Killian scenario!

I'm causin' more family feuds than Richard Dawson
And the survey said, ya dead

Too soon?

So Richard Dawson died last night. To say I'm a little bummed out does not even begin to cut it. Not only was I pretty much raised on classic game shows, but Hogan's Heroes remains one of my favourite shows of all time. I've actually had a half-written Peter Newkirk app kicking around my hard drive for years now. The Running Man is one of three VHS tapes I still own because I could never bring myself to toss it, even though I have it on DVD. I know it's really silly to get upset over random famous people dying, particularly when they were, you know, old and it really shouldn't come as a surprise, but he was one of the big crushes of my formative years, I was so in love with this guy all the way up to my high school days that it really hit me like a punch to the gut this morning.

I can't decide if I want to go watch his episode of The Odd Couple right now, or if that would just be masochism. Also, I may not believe in heaven, but this comment on Tumblr really made me smile and tear up all over again:

Richard Dawson has left for the big game show in the sky. Brett Somers is waiting with a carton of Benson & Hedges.

I will leave you with his truly bizarre 1967 song, Apples and Oranges, for which he was endlessly made fun of on Match Game, to my endless delight.
