Spring 2022 - Week 9
Woke up this morning with hiccups and a sore back, but I pulled out the mat and did some yoga and just generally got my shit together to start the week off right. The hiccups have come back, though, which is annoying.
25. What’s on your schedule for tomorrow?
Just as yesterday's question would have had a better answer today (I got an Archie comic from Melly!), today's question would have a better answer tomorrow, when I'll probably just be scrubbing around the house, watching movies and doing chores and just generally enjoying not having to work. The weekend should be much more interesting! I've got Top Gun with my large adult brother (graduation in just over a week!) on Friday, cat yoga and d&d and Men on Saturday, then Sunday is pay-per-view night! It's all going down!
The final 'crying about BCS' section for a couple of months...
FILMS
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022): I was expecting to get 'Wreck-It Ralph 2 Disney princess scene' vibes from this whole thing and leave with a bad taste in my mouth, but all the ridiculous Ready Player One cameo culture stuff (and there was a LOT of it) was exclusively there to serve the constant barrage of gags, so it actually worked extremely well? This shit was ridiculous and great. Captain Putty definitely my favourite character, and I've been saying 'Ay, pachanga!' to myself regularly ever since I saw it.
Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022): I took my mom to see the first one even though neither of us had watched the show because there was nothing else playing that week, and then she went and watched the whole show afterwards so I was DRAGGED out to see this one for her birthday. Full circle. Anyway I had fun!
SHORTS
Cab Calloway's Hi-De-Ho (1934): Peaks early on with the pajamjam jam session in the train car, but the whole thing's just a hoot.
TELEVISION
Better Call Saul 6x07: Aaaaaaaaaand I'm devastated again. It's not like with Nacho, where I was desperately rooting for him to get a happy ending in the end even as I knew better; it's Howard, ain't nobody ever rooting for Howard. But he still didn't deserve any of that. It's also not like Nacho in that it didn't come as a surprise? While Nacho's death was inevitable in-universe, Howard's felt inevitable from a purely narrative point of view. There are six episodes left and the thrust of everything has been pointing to the climax of the season converging around Lalo and his war with Gus; there's just no more time left to spend with HHM, and whatever Jimmy and Kim were planning to do to Howard was never going to write him neatly out of their lives. So I spent the entire episode fully expecting him not to survive it. The only question was HOW, if the plan would go horribly awry somehow or if he'd off himself in the aftermath (completing the trifecta of main character suicides in the process). And then the candle flickered and we knew. Damn, everything about that scene was so rough. At least he got to read Jimmy and Kim to filth before he went.
I'm so not ready for this show to be over. I have until July to prepare.
Riverdale 6x15: GDI NOT NOW RIVERDALE I'M STILL SAD ABOUT LAWYERS
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 1x03: AND ALSO SPACE PEOPLE. At least they're not letting the stupid sexy captain hog all the angst, they're really spreading it around nicely~
