Spring 2022 - Week 3

I had extremely violent, dystopian dreams, and it's still too cold for the big melt to be upon us once more, but the storm seems to have passed, and it was nice and bright and the sun didn't set until 8pm, and I read a bit and watched some TV and a movie and some wrestling and exercised and overall I'm feeling very satisfied with how the day went! On to the night!

13. Did you get excited to go back to school as a child?

lol jesus christ no. Pretty much hated every minute of it from the very outset, so it was always something to dread! So glad to finally be old enough that people have stopped asking me when/if I'm ever going to go back. I guess I liked collecting all the items on the school supply list and having them be all nice and new?

FILMS

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022): SO GOOD. I'd been looking forward to this one since long before the 'omg best movie ever' chatter started up, and even then I was skeptical it'd live up to the frankly ridiculous hype, but it largely did, and I just really loved it! Never lets the deeper themes compromise the utter ridiculous lengths it goes to, it's just so much fun that I had to make a conscious decision NOT to engage too deeply with the messages and themes as I was watching it, because they were ALSO very good and I kinda had to pick a lane and save the rest for a future rewatch? And I picked just going along for that first-time ride, since I will definitely be watching this again. Finally, a masterpiece worthy of the Broomshakalaka directors. FUCKING SHORT ROUND GOT TO BE ALL HOT IN AN EXTENDED WONG KAR-WAI HOMAGE, LIKE. THAT ALONE SHOULD GIVE IT ALL THE OSCARS. Also, I had better see at least one wrestler wearing a replica of Jobu's sweet ring gear sometime in the next month or so. Willow Nightingale could definitely rock that look, I'm just saying.

Reinhardtstrasse (2009): Constantly, desperately trying to wring deep meaning out of utter nothingness. Just saying things with big pregnant pauses or pointed looks doesn't magically imbue them with poignancy!
