[480] radio is a sound salvation

There's a work barbecue today, but it's all the way at the body shop, which is a good ten minute walk away, and it ends an hour before my lunch break, so I will probably not get any, which is annoying. Also, we were supposed to go to the movies tomorrow night, but now mom wants to do a double feature on Monday instead. These two extremely minor things are currently doing some sort of fusion dance in my head to make the next three days feel like an insurmountable obstacle that I'm just slamming headlong into and ugh. I need a new life.

Temperature was back below freezing this morning. I have busted out the cozy cardigan and hate everything. Except the cozy cardigan. And Elvis Costello, apparently!

sometimes wikipedia's policy of using the first print album cover no matter what is kinda funny THAT'S OBVIOUSLY NOT HOW IT WAS MEANT TO LOOK

Wikipedia Sez: This Year's Model is the second studio album by the English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, released on 17 March 1978 through Radar Records. After being backed by Clover for his debut album My Aim Is True (1977), Costello formed the Attractions—keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas and drummer Pete Thomas (no relation)—as his permanent backing band. Recording sessions took place at London's Eden Studios in eleven days between late 1977 and early 1978. Nick Lowe returned as producer, and Roger Béchirian acted as engineer. Most of the songs were written prior to the sessions, and debuted live during the latter half of 1977.

Genre: Pop/Rock

Styles: New Wave, Punk/New Wave, Rock & Roll, Contemporary Pop/Rock, Punk, British Punk

Release Date: March 17th, 1978, and SIDEBAR: What is it about Elvis Costello that makes me unable to process how old he is?? It is somehow unfathomable to me that he's been putting stuff out for almost 50 years, and I don't know why. Is it because he was in Austin Powers? He was kind of all over the place in the early-'00s, so maybe my child-brain just assumed he wasn't super relevant prior to that? I don't know, it's weird, how is this album as old as Halloween???

Prior Familiarity: Looooooow.

What I Did While Listening: Stayed up too late again! Felt good about it!

Verdict: Oh wow, I loved this as an album, as an experience, as just a collection of good songs, I enjoyed the hell out of it and kinda wish I was listening to it again right now. Honestly, I was a little annoyed going in, since it's only been five albums since my last Elvis Costello offering and I prefer a diversity of sounds (for those keeping track at home, that's 3 total albums for him, 1 for Elvis Presley so far THIS LIST IS SO FUCKING WEIRD), but that annoyance did not last once I actually started listening to it. Damn that shit's good.

Favourite Song: (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea but also whichever one I'm listening to at any given time.

Leshia's Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and that's the third (of three!) Elvis Costello album to snag that honour, so I should probably just bite the bullet and listen to everything he's ever put out at this point, I guess??

May Movie Count: 16 (The Assassin, Who Saw Her Die?, Trenque Lauquen, Amadeus, Clown in a Cornfield, Torso, The Best Way to Walk, Donnie Darko, Mind Game, A Fish Called Wanda, All the Colors of the Dark, Thunderbolts*, Until Dawn, What Have They Done to Your Daughters?, The Fog)
