[472] forever out of time, forever just unwinds
And I'm back! Back at work, back from my brilliant, movie-filled weekend in Edmonton, back on my bullshit, just back back back!
It was... an intense weekend. The bus ride went nice and smoothly with no delays for a change, I met up with my aunt, visited my other aunt in her sprawling new care home, grabbed supper at some packed and insanely delicious Italian place, and then hit the movie theatre for some late-night Cronenberg before crashing for the evening. Saturday and Sunday were then spent pretty much living at the Cineplex for over twelve hours each day? It ruled. I ate so much junk food and was so emotionally wrung out by the time I got back to my hotel room that I slept better than I think I ever have in my life? I didn't oversleep, just slept... so so well for a change. I've seen all of Lynch's movies so many times now, I really did not anticipate just how heavy an experience mainlining six of them in a dark room in two days would be! It was genuinely amazing, though, well worth the whim. My heart remains heavy, but only because it's so full.
I also got really high for Dune and the Pink Floyd concert movie, which was totally the right call, and I fucked up my left foot from walking for over half an hour in four-inch heels each day, which was not the right call. Neither was packing a denim jumpsuit YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM BETWEEN MOVIES, DUM-DUM.
Anyway! On Monday I killed a bit of time at Indigo (finally got a proper copy of MOX now that I'm a quarter of the way through the audiobook version as well as that Hank Green TB book everyone won't shut up about and fresh copies of Wuthering Heights (because I collect them) and On Writing (because I didn't actually have one of my own), yay books!) before the theatre opened and then caught one last movie, something light and easy to offset the existential dread still lingering from getting out of Eraserhead at midnight the night before. Then I grabbed a quick lunch with my aunt and was back on the bus home, trying and mostly failing not to obsessively refresh election results whenever there was a decent enough signal. Everything worked out okay! Everyone here is very mad about it, which is how you know it was a good result~
Yesterday was nice, one chill day to unpack and relax properly before flipping back into work mode. I watched the first Road to Wrestling Dontaku show and was completely unprepared for how much Jeff Cobb cried, oof. Also a lot of BuzzFeed Unsolved for some reason?? Not sure what the plan for tonight is going to be. Will have to just play it by ear~

Wikipedia Sez: Dust is the seventh studio album by Screaming Trees, released on June 25, 1996. After an aborted attempt at recording a followup to Sweet Oblivion with producer Don Fleming, the band hired producer George Drakoulias to man the controls for what eventually turned out to be their last album released during the group's lifetime. In contrast to the group's previous recordings that were more influenced by psychedelic rock and punk rock, Dust contains music that is equally influenced by folk and blues, while still retaining a harder-edged sound. "All I Know" was released as a single from the album and became a success on rock radio. "Dying Days" features Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
Genre: Pop/Rock
Styles: Alternative Pop/Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, Grunge, Hard Rock, Neo-Psychedelia
Release Date: June 25th, 1996
Prior Familiarity: None. The seventh album by this band I've never heard of, you say?? Fascinating.
What I Did While Listening: Unwound in my hotel room, post-movie.
Verdict: I'mma be real, I spent most of this album just thinking about The Shrouds and trying to come to grips with the ending of it, and as such, it did not leave much of an impression on me. Very '90s, a little grimy in a good way, ultimately fine. But seriously, wtf was up with the last ten minutes or so of The Shrouds???
Favourite Song: Sworn and Broken
