Woke up to the heater not working, because THAT was just what I needed to end my wonderful week off with. As it's the dead of winter and shaping up to be an unceasingly bitter cold February, that's not exactly a problem that can be left to fate, but mom gave me the number of the heating and plumbing guy they use at work, and it was fixed well before we could see our breath! Except now I need to come up with a couple hundred dollars. And email the guy because I never actually got the bill? Problems for tomorrow. For now, I finally managed to get out to the movies, Companion was great, Sophie Thatcher rules so hard, and I've got a lot that I still want to get done before work in the morning, so bye!

Wikipedia Sez: Butterfly is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released on September 10, 1997, by Columbia Records. The album contains both hip-hop and urban adult contemporary sounds, as well as some softer and more contemporary melodies. Throughout the project, Carey worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she had written and produced most of the material from her previous albums. She also worked with many famed hip-hop producers and rappers, such as Sean "Puffy" Combs, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott and the Trackmasters. With the latter acts producing most of the album, Butterfly deviated from the adult contemporary sound of Carey's previous albums.
Genre: R&B
Styles: Adult Contemporary R&B, Contemporary R&B, Pop
Release Date: September 10th, 1997
Prior Familiarity: None. Mariah is one of those pop culture figures who feels really ubiquitous, but whose work has pretty much missed me entirely, except for that one Heartbreaker song.
What I Did While Listening: Finally got cracking on my laundry. Changed my bedding. Thought about things I would rather be doing.
Verdict: Oh, I do not care for this at all. I guess that blending of hip hop and pop vocals was pretty noteworthy at the time, but it just sounds like all of the most generic, annoying '90s garbage stuck in a blender now. Why'd it have to be a whole hour long??? Even the Prince cover managed to be seven minutes of boring!
Favourite Song: Breakdown; even with the whack, irritating bird noises throughout, I did enjoy the work of Messrs. Bone. Or maybe that last track, Outside, where she finally cuts loose vocally a bit and shows off what she can do beyond bland warbling.
