[441] calves are easily bound and slaughtered, never knowing the reason why

Went to the doctor and immediately regretted it because she ordered bloodwork and an EKG and urinalysis and I have to find somewhere to book a hearing test after I figure out how my insurance even works these days even though she prefaced it all by saying that there was a good chance the tinnitus could just prove to be idiopathic in the end regardless and uuuuuugh I hate this. Feels like I've wasted half of my week off dealing with this, although it really wasn't that much time in the grand scheme of things, and considering I spent the entire night after having my blood drawn having another weird bout of anxiety centred around my veins, ruling out some sort of thyroid thing is probably a good idea. Like, I've always had a phobia of needles, but not AFTER the fact!

We'll see. For now, it's been SO cold and has snowed SO much and mom is feeling SO shitty after her radiation that we bailed on all our plans for today and just watched Hundreds of Beavers and the Royal Rumble. I have zero interest in modern WWE and as long as the Rumble is so easy to watch, just streaming right there on the main page of Netflix, I will be happy to use it as a yearly reminder of all the reasons why that is. It's all just so... glossy, I wanna rub just a little bit of dirt all over everything on my screen when I'm watching it. Plus the way you have to wait a year in between matches for them to actually get to the wrestling, plus the wonky booking, plus the simple moral ickiness of supporting such a fucked up company with so many horrendous accusations behind it... I'm good! Still a fun enough show, though. Got to see all my beloveds who have jumped ship for the Fed of late, your Giulias and your Motor City Machine Guns and whatnot, my mom got to be excited about John Cena and discover how hot Roman Reigns is, my brother got to wander by and explain who Speed is, good times.

Tomorrow: all the stuff we didn't do today, namely visiting my grandmother and going to see Companion. Also I picked up the three months of Mubi for $1 promo, so hopefully that will help me kickstart my new year's resolution to watch more movies, since I decidedly did not do that in January.

Wikipedia Sez: Joan Baez, also known as Joan Baez, Vol. 1, is the debut solo album by folk singer Joan Baez. The album was recorded in the summer of 1960 and released the same year. The original release featured 13 traditional folk songs. Later reissues included three additional songs. In 2015, the album was selected for induction into National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress for special recognition and preservation as one of the sound recordings in over 130 years of recording history that has "cultural, artistic and/or historical significance to American society and the nation's audio legacy".

Genre: Folk

Styles: Contemporary Folk, Folk Revival, Political Folk, Traditional Folk

Release Date: October 1st, 1960

Prior Familiarity: Low for these versions, but they're all pretty recognizable tunes.

What I Did While Listening: Tried to chill out a bit and not feel like I was wasting my whole week.

Verdict: Doesn't seem like it's putting much on the table beyond some pretty vocals at first, but by the time it gets into the really heavy ballads toward the end it hits pretty hard.

Favourite Song: Girl of Constant Sorrow obviously just made me want to go watch O Brother, Where Art Thou?, but I think that was only on the reissue, so Mary Hamilton. I'm reading A Room of One's Own right now, too, which was a fun bit of synchronicity.

I fast-forwarded through almost the entire thing just to see how far Penta would make it. Kinda surprised Punk or Cena didn't get it, though? Punk's been so damn injury prone that you'd think they'd want to finally book that before he's off for another year.

I agree about the glossiness, though. Pro wrestling is such an inherently silly thing that the smaller venues and pared-down sets lend the whole thing authenticity. At no point in the bits I watched did I actually believe any of these dudes were getting, say, punched or kicked, whereas in AEW, I'm generally wondering how the hell the dudes are still standing.

except for the dude cody fought, that landing looked brutal
