It's zero degrees out, my mom is coming home today, and Oscar nominations are out! What a great Thursday!
Miraculously survived another night despite my continuing convictions that I'm dying of some sort of aneurysm/burst vessel/kinked artery every single time I lie down to sleep and also sometimes during the day why does my neck feel so weird??? (it's probably because I'm paying so much obsessive attention to it, sometimes a headache is just a headache, jfc)
Oscar nominations are... all right! Some good stuff, some annoying snubs, some nods that seem questionable but about which I haven't actually seen enough of the movies involved to say for sure, a fun mixed bag overall! My biggest complaint is the lack of variety outside the top of the card; the anointed Best Pictures, while a cool bunch of movies in and of themselves, just dominate every other category in a way that gets very repetitive and blah. Eight of the ten BP nominees have at least five nominations total, and three of them have twice that, which is frankly ridiculous, leaving very little for movies outside of the Chosen Few. Also The Brutalist winning best picture the year after Oppenheimer is gonna be mega boring, however deserved it may be. Two 3+ hour WW2-adjacent ultra-serious films going back-to-back suuuuuuucks. As with most things, I blame Barbie.
