[424] hey, December, guess I'm feeling unmoored

Slightly warmer today, though I didn't feel it. Streets are ever more treacherous. I'm so, so tired; the cold and the dark are really wearing on me this year. I've got my space heater cranked up and a sweater on and I'm still freezing and it's only Thursday.

I did see a fox on my way to work, though, so it's not all bad. Just a week and a half until the days start getting longer again and the oppression starts to lessen. Ugh, winter never used to bother me this much.

Mom's got a rental Jeep Wrangler to drive around for a few days until the dealership can get her into a loaner, and she is complaining about it nonstop. Everyone at work is annoying me, even all the nice people doing nothing wrong and just being politely clueless. I am not parts! I am not reception! Leave me alone!!!

Had a very decadent 90-minute night nap yesterday instead of simply crashing, which was nice. Made noodles. Watched an episode of The Penguin. I'm pretty sure I would be just as bone-deep tired today regardless, so.

Bonus Landmark points to go see Kraven this weekend, but who knows how long War of the Rohirrim will actually be playing here? A dilemma.

Wikipedia Sez: Evermore is the ninth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was a surprise album released on December 11, 2020, via Republic Records, less than five months after her previous studio album Folklore. Evermore was a spontaneous product of Swift's extended collaboration with her Folklore collaborator Aaron Dessner, mainly recorded at his Long Pond Studio in the Hudson Valley. Swift described Evermore as an offshoot of "the folklorian woods"—an escapist, cottagecore-inspired direction she first ideated with Folklore during the COVID-19 pandemic; she regards them as sister albums. Evermore blends alternative rock, indie folk and chamber pop styles, carried by fingerpicked guitars, somber pianos, lavish strings, and sparse percussion. Impressionist storytelling and mythopoeia dominate its lyrical technique. The subject matter has been described as an anthology of tales about love, marriage, infidelity, and grief, exploring the complexities of human emotion. American bands Bon Iver, Haim, and the National appear as guest performers on the album. (endless jerk-off motions)

Genre: Pop/Rock

Styles: Contemporary Singer/Songwriter, Adult Alternative Pop/Rock, Indie Folk, Alternative/Indie Rock, Pop

Release Date: December 11th, 2020

Prior Familiarity: I may have groaned audibly when I pulled this album.

What I Did While Listening: Tidied up, and then because the quote-unquote (deluxe edition) -- two extra songs lmao, christ what a scam -- was too long for me to have time to do yoga after, I just covered myself in a lot of lotion. Self-care, baby~~~

Verdict: It's fine, if tedious. Knocking a star off for how painfully pretentious this shit is while failing utterly to live up to that degree of wankery, though. It's just generic folksy pop, calm down with the mythopoeia.

Favourite Song: I am a sucker for bonny bear, so I will say the title track, but an album of songs more like closure that actually played around with the formula some would have made for a much less tedious listening experience for me.
