[405] sympathy, sympathy, you want some, don't come to me

Can't believe I missed out on making an error 404 album not found joke for my last one, smh.

Anyway! Everything's bad, there's not much to say about it. I wish I could imply that I was surprised by the outcome of the American election, but I've had eight years to internalize the fact that a large proportion of the human population will likely always be willing to blithely go along with their worst impulses if they're given even the slightest bit of leave to, so I'm really not, just... tired and disappointed. Hopefully you'll still have elections in four years!

It's very white outside, our first day of the season where the sky is uniformly the same colour as the snow, making all of the outdoors seem like this glowing empty void. It's not even cold out! If this was all winter entailed, I wouldn't mind eight months of it so much.

Wikipedia Sez: Rings Around the World is the fifth studio album and the major label debut by Super Furry Animals. Released on 23 July 2001 by Epic Records in the United Kingdom, it was the first album by any artist to be simultaneously released on both audio CD and DVD. The record reached number 3 in the UK Albums Chart and includes the singles "Juxtapozed with U", "(Drawing) Rings Around the World" and "It's Not the End of the World?".

Genre: Pop/Rock

Styles: Alternative Pop/Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, Britpop, Indie Pop, Neo-Psychedelia

Release Date: July 23rd, 2001

Prior Familiarity: None.

What I Did While Listening: Started tidying up and switching from work week autopilot mode to off week try-to-have-an-actual-life mode.

Verdict: It's... okay? Felt like extremely mid, unmemorable, pretentious vibe music for a while, but I listened to it in two parts, half of it after a good night's sleep, so maybe I just needed to be in a more receptive state for it? Not sure why it's on this list, unless it's for the DVD thing, but the 20th anniversary edition on Spotify is like seven fucking hours long (maybe I should have underlined 'pretentious' above) and I was not overly compelled to stick with it beyond the first disc covering the original release.

Favourite Song: No Sympathy was the song that kinda turned me around on the album a bit, finding it more interesting from thereon out, but it feels a little callous leaning too hard into its messaging today, so I'll say Run! Christian, Run!

Leshia's Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Think I'm going to go do some yoga now. Hang tight. Believe it or not, we are all in this together.
