re: Cool Public Performances
Vacation Missive #2! I had a really great, fun day, with one big caveat that may or may not affect my approach to tomorrow.
Woke up bright and early to finally break free of the suburbs and head into Ottawa proper and hit up an old movie theatre for an old movie that I already loved, then I wandered through the cold and the rain and got lost a LOT but eventually made it to the National Gallery, where I spent the afternoon. Also got lost a lot in there. Still don't get the appeal of Mark Rothko, having now seen one of his big boring things in person, and SIDEBAR, I know this is 1000% just a side effect of spending my entire life growing up in the middle of nowhere, but it honestly blows my mind that you can just pay twenty bucks and go see some Magrittes and shit??? That just seems so wild to me! Good afternoon! Then, once I finally escaped the labyrinth that was the Canadian/Indigenous exhibit, I popped across the street for the bilingual Sunday mass at a proper fuckin' basilica and it was the coolest building I've ever been in. Then I got lost some more and grabbed some Subway, and made it back to that cool old theatre to catch the lesbian bodybuilding noir movie and I loved it a lot, though I'm still not totally sure how I feel about the ending. I think I need to see it again!
HOWEVER, my churchy little detour was largely to take my mind off the fact that I was missing Mystery Wrestling AGAIN solely because I don't look at Twitter enough anymore because it fucking sucks so much now and AAAAAAAAGH THEY WERE RIGHT ACROSS THE FUCKING RIVER FROM ME AND I FUCKING MISSED IT. Mace & Mansoor were there! And Stu! And Thunder Rosa! And I had a really great day to make up for it, but I feel genuinely a bit nauseated when I think about it too much and maybe I should just take a chill suburb day tomorrow for self-care purposes? Just stay in and watch stuff and do yoga and make lots of pasta and maybe just hit up the Kanata movie theatre if I want to get some air. I don't want to waste my last day in Ottawa being a pouty puss, but... I kinda want to waste my last day in Ottawa being a pouty puss?
We'll see. I'm definitely sleeping in, either way.
