[276] day in, day out, the same old hoodoo follows me about

A lack of updates to go along with the back half of my week off seemingly just melting away into the ether on me! Dang! It certainly hasn't been a total waste of time or anything -- I've taken some absolutely wicked naps, and ate some pretty good stew that mom brought home from work, and saw the really long Scorsese movie (it's good!), and absolutely ran my ass into the ground. My ankle is a little bit mad at me, but I'm feeling real damn good. Life stuff!

No real Halloween plans to speak of, a nice spooky bath and then dressing up to go see the shitty-looking FNAF movie before I pack it in early to be ready to head back on shift in November are about the extent of it. Mostly I'm just grateful not to be working for it! Month end is a real holiday boner killer!

Wikipedia Sez: Ellington at Newport is a 1956 live jazz album by Duke Ellington and his band of their 1956 concert at the Newport Jazz Festival, a concert which revitalized Ellington's flagging career. Jazz promoter George Wein describes the 1956 concert as "the greatest performance of [Ellington's] career... It stood for everything that jazz had been and could be." It is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, which ranks it "one of the most famous... in jazz history". The original release was partly recreated in the studio after the Ellington Orchestra's festival appearance.

Genre: Jazz

Styles: Big Band, Swing

Release Date: November 1956

Prior Familiarity: I know most of the tunes.

What I Did While Listening: Made perogies, ate perogies, and ran a Zombies, Run! mission involving a polyamorous orchestra, which felt very appropriate. It's a very long album when you get into the complete version, so I had a lot of time!

Verdict: One of those albums that makes you slowly morph into the most pretentious of losers, because all you want to do is spend an entire evening listening to it on vinyl while musing in a recliner and sipping whiskey in a warmly-lit lounge. It's so good! It's so so good! I never wanted it to end!

Favourite Song: Take the 'A' Train

Aaaaaaand now I want perogies, fuck.
