Tired, tired, tired, but I managed to roll out of bed early enough to shower before work for a change, and my mom gave me a ride amidst a torrent of freezing rain, so it's not all bad. Just watching the hours tick away one by one, for tomorrow is the home stretch.

1. What’s your favorite gemstone?

Garnet is my birthstone, and since I don't have any strong gemstone preferences one way or another, it's a good default, I think. Like a hipster ruby.

I like quite a lot of them, but I think lapis lazuli has my longest-term favorite - it's harder than opal and requires less climate control than opal as well, but still is soft enough to be carved or domed into a cabochon or faceted, and it's even prettier when it has gold or pyrite inclusions.
