Vacation Dispatch #6

Home! It's good to be! Really not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow (like, REALLY really), but other than that, it's good! I had a great couple of days in Montreal with nix (museum! movies! train go fast! killed a dragon! big wheel!) and my final vacation analysis comes down to BOY, I NEEDED THAT and need to make sure I don't wait another half a decade before doing something like it again. I came back to a bald mother and freezing overnights, but also hope that this is all halting the cancer and some nice clear sunny afternoons with the ol' reliable fall yellows on trees that don't look fake to me, so it's certainly not all bad (that sentence is an incoherent mess, but I don't have time or motivation to fix it).

I have so much to doooooooooo, sob.

Wikipedia Sez: The Only Ones is the debut studio album by English power pop band The Only Ones, released in 1978 by Columbia Records. It was produced by the Only Ones themselves, with the assistance of Robert Ash and was mixed at Basing St., Escape and CBS.

Prior Familiarity: Nope!

What I Did While Listening: Made myself some soup for breakfast, and then proceeded to eat the soup. It was good soup.

Verdict: It's okay? I don't know if I really get what it's going for, honestly. First of all, I fucking hated this guy's accent when he sings and it took me a few tracks to get over it, and in so doing, I think the rest of it just kinda washed over me without leaving much of an impression? I actually let it play through a second time as I tried to fix my fucked up 2000 AD subscription and found myself enjoying it more that time around, though?

Favourite Song: Another Girl, Another Planet

Wikipedia Sez: Trout Mask Replica is the third studio album by the American band Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, released as a double album on June 16, 1969, by Straight Records. The music was composed by Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) and arranged by drummer John "Drumbo" French. Combining elements of R&B, garage rock, and blues with free jazz, avant-garde approaches, and other genres of American music, the album is regarded as an important work of experimental music and art rock.

Prior Familiarity: All I knew was that it was one of 'those' albums that quirky creative outsider types love to say that they love.

What I Did While Listening: Tried to clean up and consolidate the mess that is all my to-do lists ARGH THERE'S JUST SO MUCH. Also torrented all the wrestling I've missed. My girl Giulia won the 5*Star Grand Prix, so clearly I now need to watch THE ENTIRE THING FROM THE BEGINNING.

Verdict: I never know how to review stuff like this. It's fucking miserable and torturous to sit through for over an hour, but it's clearly trying very very hard to be miserable, so... mission accomplished, I guess?

Favourite Song: Don't do this to me, I have to go to work in the morning. Veteran's Day Poppy, because it was the last one.

Okay, that's all the fucking around I have time for today, vacation is over and I have to go pick up my mom's special mouthwash and go get my grandmother's laundry and then hopefully we can go see Smile okay I love you bye!!!!
