[0117] never say never say never again

Had vague plans for a more substantive entry, but I'm in that bad twilight haze of period pain while I wait for the drugs to kick in again, so my focus is... limited, and once the magic starts happening, it's Rampage time, so this is a single-use post today. I am so very bloated.

Wikipedia Sez: Odessa is the sixth studio album by the Bee Gees, a double vinyl LP released on 30 March 1969, initially in an opulent red flocked cover with gold lettering. Despite reaching the UK Top Ten and the US Top 20, the album was not particularly well-received, though now is regarded by many as the most significant of the group's Sixties albums. An ambitious project, originally intended as a concept album on the loss of a fictional ship in 1899, it created tension and disagreements in the band regarding the work's direction; finally, a dispute over which song to release as a single led to Robin Gibb temporarily leaving the group.

Genre: Pop/Rock

Styles: AM Pop, Baroque Pop, Psychedelic Pop, Psychedelic/Garage, Prog-Rock

Prior Familiarity: Pretty low, I really only know the big radio singles as far as the Bee Gees go.

What I Did While Listening: Started a load of laundry, cleaned the toilet, then figured that was enough productivity and set up my blanket nest for the rest of the night. Please hurry up so I can settle in, painkillers.

Verdict: I actually really dug this, a lot more than I expected to initially, as I first put it on and started getting a feel for exactly what it was. I don't always fuck with big conceptual things, but this one really swept me away in places.

Favourite Song: Black Diamond. Though I think I'd like a cover version without the weird warbly bits even better, so Lamplight, actually.

Oooooh yeah, there's the stuff.
