Dynamite (03.23.2022)

Well, the temperature dropped twenty degrees (TOTALLY NORMAL), so the walk to work was much more treacherous this morning, and I had to really bang on the mailbox a bunch to be able to get it open through the ice, but it's still warm enough to feel like spring, so hey.

Alberta has finally nerfed their daily COVID reporting, so I can no longer keep track of active confirmed cases, which I don't love, but hey, pandemic's over forever anyway, right?

A random nice thing I just remembered from last week: when I redid my nails after Revolution, I wanted something that still reminded me of the show, so I went with a vague CM Punk theme, and then when I went out for brunch, the server immediately commented on them with a cheery 'oh, I like your nails, it's like blood!' like damn lady, way to perfectly clock the vibe, I felt so seen.

24. What good habit have you had the longest?

Yeah, I'm having a tough time with this one. Pretty much all of them have fallen by the wayside to some degree over the last two years. Getting to work on time no matter the toll it takes on me bodily, is that a good habit? I've been drinking more water over the last year or so, I guess. Still kinda think it's all a scam from Big Hydration.

CM Punk vs. Dax Harwood: Fuck this was so good. Dax never misses in singles outings, Punk looks hot af with the thicker beard, I love that THIS was his big post-dog collar match (and filming season 2 of Heels, I think?) return instead of just some talky segment, I'm really compelled by FTR's pending face turn (Cash coming back out to check on Dax but never interfering in the match, it's not quite on the level of Eddie desperately forcing himself not to push the ropes over to Ortiz but COME ON that's good TV), just good shit all around!

The JAS is such a stupid gimmick and I don't hate it. Mostly I think I just like 2point0's mugging and how far into the background Hager continues to be shoved.

Sting, Darby Allin & The Hardys vs. Private Party, The Butcher & The Blade in a Tornado Tag Match: Seems awfully soon after the LAST crazy tornado tag they did, but it's sorta the perfect usage of both Sting and the Hardys, so I ain't mad. Just let 'em do whatever ridiculous spots they want whenever, don't worry about wrestling basics or taking crazy bumps, you know? JEFF WHAT ARE YOU DOING GET DOWN FROM THERE

FTR continuing to drop all sorts of ridiculous Bret Hart teases as they call out the Ass Boys, I wonder if they'll fully commit and come out of the face tunnel when they fight next week? Can't wait to see the Bucks take those AAA belts from them in Mexico next month!

Varsity Blonds vs. Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson: Look at these good good violent boys, doing good good violences! The best part was, of course, Julia being COMPLETELY unbothered as her stablemates get horribly murdered, some real meme-worthy shit right there, but the Blackpool Combat Club is an objectively very badass name for this new faction. I will still think of it as Professor Regal's School for Violent Youths, though.

Was mostly lukewarm on the MJF promo, seems like he's just going back to his old boring cheap heat beats for this Wardlow feud? The business side of it could be interesting though, surely this can only end with TK buying out Wardlow's contract or something? So he can finally get that #ALLELITE graphic? Anyway, the craziest thing to happen here was when the audience started chanting JESUS because that guy who always dresses like Jesus at Texas shows was there, but I didn't realize that, so I just thought they were going on some weird antisemitic tangent out of NOWHERE that MJF then leaned into by saying he'd crucify Wardlow, too?? THAT WAS A RIDE.

NOT TRENT TRYING TO PUT YUTA IN HIS PLACE AND YUTA STICKING UP FOR HIMSELF, SOBBBB. MY HEART CAN'T TAKE BEST FRIENDS DRAMA but also craves it desperately??? hahaha gimme "THEY LET YOU LIVE ON THEIR COUCH" (does this mean that Chuck and Orange canonically live together??)

Jay Lethal vs. Adam Cole: It was pretty good? Never felt like it rose above a rehash of their old ROH matches, though, this week's show really lost a lot of steam in the back half. Kyle looked v. cute and slutty in his reDRagon t-shirt, and Hangman just WHIPPING his belt off to go to town on Adam afterwards was a CHOICE. WHERE IS THIS GOING, since it can't just be ANother title shot for Adam???

Sammy and Tay are really making me miss Cody and Brandi at this point, WOW. I pure straight loathed every second of their exchange with Lambert. I hate all of these people now! Throw this whole feud in the trash and give the TNT title to someone less saddled with all this awful bullshit ASAP, please!

Red Velvet vs. Leyla Hirsch: Why the hell does just stopping Leyla from cheating once get Kris banned from ringside when Britt and her cronies were allowed to run rampant for months on end? Why are these two getting ANOTHER rematch already when there are no stakes for their feud? Why is this all buried right before the main event yet again? Because Tony Khan doesn't give a shit about women's wrestling and it sucks real bad!

...and then Rosa's first post-victory segment as champ consisted of Vickie screaming racist shit at her and her just standing there until Nyla (obviously) showed up to beat her down. She didn't even get to talk. Like. It's such shit! It's shit.

Chris Jericho & Daniel Garcia vs. John Silver & Alex Reynolds: Is this the first time the Beaver Boys have main evented on their own? I know Silver has, and I'm sure they have together with Hangman/other Dark Order members, but just the two of them? I'm not sure! This was fun, but honestly, I was so annoyed and bummed out by the godawful Sammy/Tay/Lambert and then Rosa/Vickie/Nyla garbage, and then my internet started being really fritzy on top of it, that I didn't really pay a ton of attention? Still, nice to see Garcia get a big submission win.

It was half of a really good show this week, I guess?

I need to start actually writing again. Graham Greene only wrote 500 words a day, 5 days a week. That's so reasonable! Hmm. Thoughts.

Lunch time.
