Rampage (03.11.22)
Was home for all of half an hour last night before the power went out, completely upending my night. I screwed around on my phone for a bit until the internet ALSO went out, like what the fuck happened, did a satellite fall out of the sky?? At this point I could literally do nothing short of lighting candles and trying to read, so instead I just entered low-power mode early (it's not quite sleeping, but it's not quite awake either, and it's how I spend most of the night on my work weeks) until the lights came on an hour later and I could get on with Rampage and Disco. The lamest of adventures, but I get so little time to myself after work, I was not wasting any of it!!
And then this morning, my snooze button decided to eat a full five minutes of extra snooze time, which is just rude and spiteful. It's not enough time to grant any measurable improvement to my night's rest, so I'm not HARMED by it, that last snooze serves only to give me a few extra minutes of happiness before I have to start another goddamn bitch of a day. What an absolute thief of joy. My mood is buoyed somewhat by the fact that it's a full thirty degrees warmer than it was yesterday (very fine and normal weather patterns), even if the ensuing blizzard made walking to work tricksy.
11. Do you have a gym membership?
lol jesus christ no, working out in public sounds like literal hell to me. I did have a membership to the nice downtown rec center when it first opened and my family had high hopes of regular pool outings and my mom was trying to walk more, but it is long since expired because... life happened.
Maybe we should try that again once the place fully opens back up, post-pandemic. I could get a library card, even! Dreams.
Unfortunately, my enjoyment of Rampage was severely hampered this week by the news immediately beforehand that Big E broke his fucking neck on SmackDown. He is just the sweetest man imaginable and deserves the world, not... well, a broken fucking neck.
Darby Allin vs. Marq Quen: Nice to see Quen getting a high-energy little singles outing after Isiah's gotten quite a few lately. Favourite part of the aftermath was how clearly Jeff was trying not to dance his way down to make the post-match save this time around LOOK AT THOSE HARDYS FULLY LEANING INTO THE NOSTALGIA VIBES. Good for them.
Ugh, Scorpio being TNT champ means dealing with even more Lambert doesn't it? Fuck. Wardlow's definitely not beating him until after he can have a nice defense in the California debut, but I really hope he doesn't hold it for much longer than that.
Over-the-top House of Black promo about overcoming addiction and purging poisons (I think??? they are delightfully nonsensical) and I swear to god if this is leading to a Malakai/CM Punk feud, I may explode. PURE SPECULATION FOR NOW.
Jamie Hayter vs. Mercedes Martinez: Nice, hard-hitting bout, two mean ladies just going to town, let down somewhat by the ending. Interjecting it into someone else's match really drives home just how tedious Britt's cheating schtick has gotten for me, but at least I love Jamie so I don't mind her picking up the win because of it (especially since they cut the intros and her theme is one of the all-time AEW bangers so it NEEDED to play again). Give them a rematch once Thunder Rosa puts Britt back in the mud.
Shida promo about how she wants to fucking decapitate Deeb and it's AMAZING and FIREY and her English has gotten so GOOD and she looks SO HOT and yeah, this really stole all of Britt/Rosa's thunder as the best feud in the entire division. CUT HER HEAD OFF, HIKARU.
QT Marshall vs. Keith Lee: Someone on twitter said that QT is the first boss you encounter when you come to AEW and have finished the tutorial Factory feud and oh my god, it's so true. He's great at what he does, though. Looking forward to Lee slapping some meat with Hobbs now!
God, Rampage commentary is so much better with only three people, this show sounds so much nicer without Jericho screaming at me constantly.
Swerve Strickland vs. Tony Nese: Fun and flashy, a really nice first outing for Swerve, even if that finisher looked kinda wonky. Helps that these two have clearly fought each other a lot, nice chemistry here, and Nese looks less butterface than usual the more he grows his beard out (he's not UGLY, his head just does NOT belong on that body and it is DISTRACTING!!).
I want pizza. :(
