[0035] jesus christ was born today

Merry Christmas, it's -40! Yesterday was a long, stressful day of eating myself sick while working overtime to keep my family from imploding into sulky tantrums for various reasons, but we made it and had an overall pretty good time! There was cooking and drinking and makeshift trivia games and watching Japanese wrestling in the living room. I got a bunch of boring practical stuff that I really wanted and needed, adulthood! Also my mom is REALLY into subscription services at the moment, apparently.

Not entirely sure what the plan for today is; I know we're heading back down to see my grandmother this afternoon, and I'm sure we'll eat and put up the posters I got her for that blank wall in her room that we can't hang anything on, but beyond that, we're not going to see the new Matrix until 10:45 tonight, so that will leave a lot of day to fill. Maybe we can come home and I can watch Rampage, since I'm STILL waiting for a goddamn upload. You'd think these people had lives of their own or something!

Wikipedia Sez: Third (reissued in 1985 as Third/Sister Lovers) is the third album by American rock band Big Star. Sessions started at Ardent Studios in September 1974. Though Ardent created promotional, white-label test pressings for the record in 1975, a combination of financial issues, the uncommercial sound of the record, and lack of interest from singer Alex Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens in continuing the project prevented the album from ever being properly finished or released at the time of its recording. It was eventually released in 1978 by PVC Records. After two commercially unsuccessful albums, Third documents the band's deterioration as well as the declining mental state of singer Alex Chilton.

Prior Familiarity: Nope! I like what little Big Star stuff I've heard, and I like what little of Chilton's solo stuff I've heard even more, though.

What I Did While Listening: Christmas morning recovery (and then there was a straight-up Christmas song on it! Ha!).

Verdict: Pretty good! Felt kinda generic and forgettable for the first little while, until I guess I just fell into what it was doing and started appreciating it a lot more.

Favourite Song: Till the End of the Day, thought I do love a good Nature Boy cover.

Okay, I have gotten dressed and recharged my batteries via stocking offerings, time to greet the day!
