Rampage (11.05.21)

It snowed! A full week after Halloween! What the heck! Just a light dusting, but enough for me to finally crack out my winter coat, so that'll be a nice treat tonight.

Speaking of overdue warmth-finding measures, I have stolen a space heater that I spotted in an empty office, and oh my god yessssssss I've been so cold at work for weeks now. I am, however, playing a very dangerous game, plugging in a new appliance and just hoping my best that it doesn't overload the circuit because all the managers who know where the fuse box is are not in until Monday. HIGH RISK, HIGH REWARD, BABY.

A wrestle post while I thaw my bones and see how many times I can watch last night's Eddie/Punk segment until I go see Eternals~

Bryan Danielson vs. Anthony Bowens: They clearly don't want to give any of the top guys any big-ticket matches this close to Full Gear, so this is sort of a random matchup, but I truly loved the 'Tony Khan's spite booking' angle they gave it, and Bowens is mega underrated next to his loudmouth partner, so it was fun. My only issue was that I had no clue who Danielson is married to or who his father-in-law is, so Max's freestyle meant absolutely nothing to me (one of the Bellas, I guess?).

Andrade confirmed to still be paying MJF for FTR's services, Dax calls out PAC, which... yeah, okay, I can dig it, gimme some gob, I'm just starting to lose track of where this whole interconnected feud is going. At first it looked like Andrade and Malakai vs. Cody and PAC, but FTR getting involved really complicates matters, especially when you throw the Lucha Bros into the mix, making it four on four with different loyalties all over the place. Maybe it's a roundabout way of getting Cody and MJF back in each other's orbits now that everyone hates Cody?

DOESN'T MATTER, EDDIE AND CM PUNK STOLE THE WHOLE DAMN SHOW ANYWAY. I seriously can't stop watching this shit. I think I particularly love the way that Punk's anger just builds and builds SO slowly, from kinda smug and aloof because this whole thing truly did start over Eddie freaking out about nothing until he just snaps with the headbutt and everything descends into chaos, SO GOOD. For the second year in a row, Eddie has instantly made his match my second most anticipated one after Hangman/Kenny over the course of a single in-ring encounter. Almost one year to the fucking day since this masterpiece, jfc. I was still getting caught up at the time!

SuperKliq vs. Christian Express is officially gonna be a trios match, which is interesting since they've... already done that, but the stipulation means it could easily be one of the sleeper hits of the night, so I'll take it.

The Bunny vs. Red Velvet (TBS Championship Tournament): Really disappointingly short, boo. The women got next to no time this week, but made the most of what they had. Really not looking forward to Jade beating Velvet AGAIN, though! My kingdom for a quarterfinal upset that definitely won't happen.

John Silver vs. Adam Cole: I love the way they tried real hard before and during this match to make sense of why it's happening for people who don't watch BTE, there's no way it sounds anything but insane to them, though. SO MANY BUDGE SIGNS IN THE CROWD. Match-wise, it was a very fun little spotfest, whenever Silver kicks into that secret hidden gear he has and just goes into crazy high-energy overdrive mode, it's impossible not to just get swept along for the ride by this strange, meaty little man. But the real drama happening here had nothing to do with the match itself and everything to do with the fact that Matt and Nick were ringside throughout.

Matt and Nick seconded Adam Cole.

MATT AND NICK SECONDED ADAM COLE.

After all their fucking drama about Kenny being the ONLY one they second, after it (among other things) cost them their relationship with Hangman and then almost did the same with Brandon until they sucked it up for a hot second to come out for him on Dark, they just second Adam without a second though. My GOD. When they started doing the kiss of death move with Kenny earlier in the year, I wondered if it was signaling that they would turn on him eventually, as they did to Adam back in the day. I never dreamed that the kiss ITSELF would be the form of the destructor, with Adam literally RISING FROM THE GRAVE to steal the Bucks back from Kenny after all these years, simply by being their friend.

There's this brutal moment from last week's big ridiculous Halloween match where Kenny has Stu in the Camel Clutch and tries to gets the Bucks to do the kiss with him again, but Adam points out some Dark Order guys in the corner so Kenny has to go deal with them while Adam just sliiiiiiides right in where Kenny left off and gets himself some Buck smooches while Kenny looks over all disappointed (he also deliberately avoids tagging Adam in in favour of the Bucks).

At his most discouraged and lonely, Matt came so close to reaching back out to Hangman, but got depressed and put off by how happy he was and so embraced the blackness that Kenny had allowed to eat him instead. Then the OTHER Bullet Club Adam suddenly came back into his life (on the night he lost his tag title, no less) without all of that baggage, so he finally had an easy outlet to actually feel loved by his friends again and now he's thriving! And Nick, as the less emotional one, will always continue to follow Matt's lead, which brings us here. The SuperKliq united while Kenny fought all alone just two days earlier (both against members of Dark Order for maximum parallels, naturally). If the same holds true at Full Gear, as I suspect it will, he'll be facing Hangman with nobody but (maybe) Don in his corner, while Hangman has a whole coterie of misfit cultists who adore him, a far fucking cry from when they faced each other one year earlier, when he couldn't bring himself to go join the Bucks as they celebrated winning the tag belts in the first place. Will Don even stick around if Kenny loses the title? Because you know Dark Order will love Hangman no matter how the match goes. Kenny is finally paying for his cruelty to the Bucks at the beginning of the year (replacing them with the Good Brothers until they got in line with him and Don, etc.) and it's HORRIBLE and I LOVE IT. GOD.

Oh wow, I was not expecting to get that deep into my Elite feelings on a Saturday. ONE WEEK UNTIL FULL GEAR, AAAAAAHHHHHH

I think I will order Indian today.
