Dynamite (09.09.21)
Operation Be Nicer At Work has begun! I... waved at somebody. And am trying to make myself OPEN to the idea of actually conversing with anyone who attempts to engage with me, though I'm still not sure how well that will go if I ever actually try to take the plunge. Baby steps! I'm still so tired, after all!
never too tired for wrassle though
Dustin Rhodes vs. Malakai Black: Very enjoyable, if hampered somewhat by the fact that it's my favourite recent addition to the roster (PENDING FURTHER EVALUATION OF EVERYONE WHO SHOWED UP AT FUCKING ALL OUT) stuck in a damn Nightmare Family feud until Cody gets back. Speaking of, the best part of this was when Malakai went under the ring to PULL OUT CODY'S BOOT that he SAVED after kicking his head off and shoves it in Dustin's face JUST TO BE A BIG DRAMATIC BITCH ABOUT IT ALL. God, I really love him a lot.
Lucha Bros celebrating their win: very cute, though I really hope Penta washes the blood off his belt soon. Eddie and Miro continuing to talk shit at each other: VERY EXCITING. GIMME DAT REMATCH. Fairly aimless 'CM Punk chats with the crowd' segment: fine, but my patience for these is beginning to run out. I am Taz, Taz is me. Just... louder. Santana & Ortiz seemingly moving on from the FTR feud and forging fresh paths: YES PLEASE DON'T JUST BE IDLE PROMO. Fun Ruby/Britt backstage interview, loved her calling out all of Britt's empty catchphrases. Fuck, that was a lot of segments. THIS WILL BE RELEVANT LATER. >:
Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Dante Martin: First he goes over Brian Cage, now he goes over the high-flying golden boy? Yeah, they've got something big in the works for Hobbs. BUT WHAT. The bit where Dante launched himself over the top rope AND Hook was so great.
Then the exact same fucking Dan Lambert shit that keeps happening happens again and it still sucks and Ethan Page still deserves so much better, the end. And I guess Matt Hardy wants to shave Orange's head now? As with all Matt Hardy feuds, I don't understand why it's still going on, but here we are and anyway, it's got nothing on the following MJF segment, which lasts approximately 8000 years, jesus christ. I hate his brand of cheap 'you're all fat and your city sucks' heat, and no, his acknowledging that it sucks and is lazy does not make it any more bearable. I didn't mind it quite as much as usual here, since it was all to get Pillman out and showcase Aunt Linda a bit more and served a legit purpose, but all the fucking drug abuse and incest jokes along the way just... were not it. Also did I mention it went on for-fucking-ever? THIS WILL BE RELEVANT LATER. >:
Ruby Soho vs. Jamie Hayter: My perfect little oasis right in the middle of this episode, I loved everything about this. I loved Jamie getting to continue looking like a monster in defeat, I love Ruby actually getting in the ring and wrestling right off the bat instead of standing around and cutting promos for weeks on end first. Most of all, I loved the post-match angle of Riho and Kris coming in to save Ruby and forming a completely random and perfect little faction of new girlfriends. Kris just held onto them both while they recovered from getting beaten and for a few perfect moments, everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.
FTR & Shawn Spears vs. Dark Order: AND THEN EVERYTHING HURT HAHAHAHA. Dark Order continues to fall apart, this time breaking down into just total violence after losing the match (well above and beyond Uno vs. 5 on Dark Tuesday night). And then Anna came out and she just looked so DISAPPOINTED and isn't that so much worse than being mad?? But Tay knew they were too far gone for Anna to be able to get them in line and held her bestie back and just. Ow. My heart. I know they'll get their shit together in time to be there for Hangman once he's back and ready to challenge for the World Championship again, but damn it's gonna hurt along the way.
A very oddly edited video package featuring some of the women from the battle royale, but it seems to set up a few angles for the division, which is DARE I SAY IT pretty promising? They've got a long way to go before they build up any of the faith I had in them back in March, but it's something! Very much looking forward to more of the Murder Girlfriends vs. Goth Girlfriends feud. And there was a Mox promo in there somewhere, and a Brian/Ricky package prepping a rematch between them, and Tully wants Shawn and Sammy to go at it again, and then Sammy does his cue card bit. Boy, what a lot of segments! THIS WILL BE RELEVANT LATER. >:
Backstage followup with the Varsity Blonds, looks like we'll be getting Brian vs. MJF at Arthur Ashe which seems like a big deal for him? And also Brian vs. Max Caster on Friday, which will be nice, not letting Mox hog all the hometown attention while they're still in Cincinnati. This was followed by a LONG in-ring interview with the Elite, in which there was a WHOLE LOT to unpack, and I'm not done doing that yet! Suffice it to say, just seeing Adam Cole with them again after all these years has me feeling some kinda way. And then Brian Danielson interrupts (oh my god why are there three guys named Brian in this episode maybe WWE is right) and I really love his Flight of the Valkyries (Trap Remix) of a theme and yeah, he's gunning straight for Kenny which is a fun change of pace for these high-profile new guys. I hope they either get it out of the way right away at Arthur Ashe or save it for after he loses the belt, though. Poor Brandon. Adam Cole is apparently debuting properly against Kaz next week, which is a fun bit of continuity: if I'm remembering my ancient Bullet Club lore right, Kaz was the one who beat him for the ROH title, which was what eventually ended up leading to Kenny and the Bucks turning on him.
Jon Moxley vs. Minoru Suzuki: So yeah, remember how this episode was kinda overloaded with segments, several of which went over five minutes long? Yeah, I don't think that was wholly intentional, and the crunch was on by the time this started. THEY CUT OFF KAZE NI NARE, FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Mox vs. Murder Grandpa should have been a goddamn EVENT, but with the time they were given, the best I can get to is... Pretty Good. Certainly not a patch on their last New Japan match, this fight should have had at LEAST another ten minutes to play with, and the worst part about it is that it could have come from SO many different places in the episode SO EASILY. A fun, but very poorly paced night on the whole. I blame Excalibur being gone to get married, he would have kept things on track, damn it.
Oooooh, my period is about to start, that explains the burrito suddenly in my hand after all that.
