Triplemanía/Resurgence/Tokyo Princess Cup (08.14.2021)

WHY WAS THERE SO MUCH WRESTLING LAST NIGHT. I had a fine time despite missing it all, though, even if I ate enough to make me feel ill. The 1-2 punch of Burger King's Nashville hot chicken sandwich and the fucking Space Jam McFlurry is gonna kill me; I will be both devastated and kinda relieved when they go away because I can't fucking get enough of either messy monstrosity.

Pretty sure it all has something to do with my period coming soon; the other night I cried for half an hour straight because I was watching an old movie, looked up one of the actors in it, and got upset over how the last few months of his life went. Legit tears over a dude who's been dead for more than a century. So dumb. So randomly hormonal, I hope.

Got almost all the Eeveelutions I wanted out of this Community Day, except I forgot to evolve a flower crown Umbreon last night after getting out from the movies (it wasn't dark enough beforehand). I can't forget tonight! Don't let me forget! And I need to get a shiny Sylveon before work ends, but it's early yet.

Only quick wrestling thoughts about what all went down last night, since I've only seen a match or two from each show so far THEY ALL FUCKING HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME DESPITE BEING IN THREE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, WHAT THE HELL.

Triplemanía XXIX

Brian Cage/Black Taurus is a fun meaty boi tag team, and Penta wearing his fancy Joker gear (in a show with a Marvel-themed match, no less) with a varsity jacket was a LEWK. He's like Tiffany Haddish, he knows he looks good, so he is gonna wear that shit EVERYWHERE.

So Deonna is the new Reina de Reinas! Watch out Kenneth, there's a new belt collector in town! I've been growing pretty bored of her as Impact champ, seeing as she's now held the title for as long as I've even really been aware of Impact's existence and has plowed through the entire roster and then some (I'd say she was entering Nick Aldis territory, but at least she's actually defended it throughout her reign), so this is a nice boost of added interest to her whole deal. NOW WHAT?

In yet another twist, Kenny retained his Mega Campeonato against Andrade! Right after losing his Impact titles to Christian! What is going ON??? Word on the street is that he was supposed to lose here, but AEW asked AAA to change their plans? Did they not want their champ to lose in back-to-back matches, or is there more going on here? I wonder if it might have anything to do with the Bucks being in another country for this match after inadvertently costing him Friday's? FUCK I can't wait for BTE tomorrow. If he's not dropping all his belts yet, might he win the Impact ones back from Christian at All Out? That match isn't title vs. title at the moment, but that could easily change. But then why have the first Christian match and put the belts on him at all? Just to add that extra stake for All Out? Could Kenny not make some Impact tapings? WHERE IS THIS ALL GOING???

Andrade remains brutally underwhelming to me, sorry not sorry. It was a fine fight, and he certainly looked better than he did against Sydal on Dynamite, but it wasn't a patch on Kenny's match with Christian, he got horribly outshone by a dude in his late 40s who was retired for seven years, like?? NOT GOOD. I wonder if he just bulked up too fast and doesn't know how to move with his new frame? Maybe it's the pants. Also bleh to Ric Flair, even if him being on a AAA show at all is pretty crazy.

I haven't watched the main event yet, but just seeing it mentioned on Twitter was enough to get Psycho Clown's theme stuck in my head all day.

Resurgence

I haven't been following mainline New Japan stuff (I struggle with any promotion that doesn't have a set weekly schedule), but I have been watching Strong every week as well the highlights show they've been putting on the Roku Channel, so I was at least broadly familiar with everything going on here!

Jay vs. David Finlay, hell yeah, THAT ONE BLADE RUNNER WAS SO SICK. Sucks for New Japan fans, but I'm very selfishly glad Jay is sitting out the G1 to stay stateside so I can continue watching him.

Lance dropped his belt already. :( To Tanahashi, so hardly some scrub at least, but still a bit of a bummer that he was just a transitional champ, seemingly so NJPW could bring the belt back to Japan (while saving Mox vs. Tana for a later date? idk but seeing him just chilling at ringside was delightful) after all this time. At least he got the big hometown win, though!

Will Ospreay's back from his neck injury and he's also sitting out the G1 to fuck around in the US for a while, so that could be fun! Even if Twitter says he's cancelled.
