Dynamite (03.10.2021)
Stray comments about last night's Dynamite in between breaking my brain against ever-increasing piles of paperwork...
Matt Jackson vs. Fenix: EXTREMELY GOOD SHIT, what a perfect way to kick off the night. That moment where Matt instinctively goes to set up the Meltzer Driver before remembering he's in a singles match and there's no Nick being what ultimately costs him the win owned my entire ass (and also heart). My appetite has now been sufficiently whet for Bucks vs. Death Triangle, whenever that happens. God, that's gonna kick so much ass. They should still do Nick vs. PAC first, though, just for fun.
And then Mox and Eddie sat on a couch and bickered adorably and completely owned the pyro botch from Revolution in a way that is kinda silly but also totally works as a patch on the story (while also casually normalizing mental illness because that's how Eddie do) and they've been living rent-free in my head ever since, oh my god. OH MY GOD. For the record, I was completely unsold on Eddie until his in-ring promo with Mox ahead of Full Gear blew my little mind, and he's been one of my favourites ever since that match, their dynamic is utterly unmatched, and having them be friends again is just?? AAAAH. They almost feel TOO powerful. I cannot wait for more of them.
The Random Cody Rhodes Squash Match: Why. Oh, to set up a feud with Penta I guess? I can dig it. CODY PLEASE HAVE AN INTERESTING CHARACTER AGAIN CHALLENGE 2021
I appreciated Orange sitting at the Fast and the Furious arcade game in his and Chuck's promo. So this feud's not over yet, huh? Maybe these two getting the win by putting Kip through a bunch of arcade cabinets will be what finally gets Miro to drop the gamer gimmick and start a proper monster solo run.
Sting gonna feud with Lance next, I guess? Not sure how I feel about that one, we shall see. I want good things for my big red murder man, and I worry he'll get locked into this for a while like Darby and Team Taz were for months.
Ethan Page vs. Lee Johnson: Yes, I do believe I like this Ethan fellow. Another good Canadian boy for the roster. Big Shotty got to put in a nice showing here, I remain happy for him. The QT Marshall heel turn continues apace, Fuego Del Sol rematch when??
Everything Hangman bought with Matt Hardy's money ($917,000 if Matt's Cameo is canon): six bottles of whiskey, a brand new saddle, all of Dwight Yoakam on vinyl, and a new lawnmower (FINALLY, HE FINALLY DID IT), donating the rest to the Jacksonville Public Education Fund. Ride into the sunset with your new friends and your titties out, cowboy, you earned it.
And then there was a whole bunch of shit with Kenny and Don and and Eddie and Mox and Christian, and the Eddie stuff was very good, but then Kenny told Don to 69 him on live television and my soul left my body and has yet to return. The main takeaways were Christian gunning for the championship (presumably after he Does. The. Work. for a while) and EDDIE/MOX VS. THE GOOD BROTHERS, NEXT WEEK, LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Thunder Rosa, Ryo Mizunami, and Hikaru Shida vs. Dr. Britt Baker, Nyla Rose, and Maki Itoh: Utter fucking chaos. I loved it. A very messy, roundabout way of setting up Britt vs. Rosa III next week (FIRST WOMEN'S MAIN EVENT, FIRST LIGHTS OUT MATCH ON DYNAMITE, WELL FUCKING EARNED), but it means more of the ladies getting to do stuff, so I was all for it. Let's GO.
Looks like they ARE sticking with the Matt Hardy vs. Dark Order angle, and now he's pulled the Butcher, the Blade, and the Bunny into the little stable he's forming, since I guess Eddie really has cut them loose after Revolution. SO MUCH FOR FAMILY.
Darby Allin (c) vs. Scorpio Sky for the AEW TNT Championship: Pretty good! Scorpio's been telegraphing his heel turn for a little while now, and it looks like it could be fun! I want to see him fight Kaz once he and CD lose to the Bucks and break up. I also want Darby to defend that damn belt more often; it's the TNT belt, it should be on TV a lot, especially now that he's out of the neverending Taz feud.
I'm having trouble getting enthused about the Inner Circle drama that ended the show, even if I LOVED watching Wardlow stomp around and kick everyone's ass. Maybe you have to have prior investment about the Four Horsemen to be excited about the reveal? Or maybe it's just because I only cared about the Inner Circle when it looked like they were breaking up? Now babyface Sammy is back for some reason, so they're just back to the original lineup, but with a random extra heel stable to face off against? What was even the point of MJF driving the wedges between them in the end if it all just ended with him going off to do his own thing anyway? And why would ANYONE trust him as a faction member at this point? Ugh, this is gonna end up being the Blood and Guts match when it finally happens, isn't it. Whatever, we'll see! FREE SAMMY. FREE WARDLOW. JUSTICE FOR PnP.
