[449] I fell in love again, all things go, all things go

Followed up about my whooshing with a different doctor who asked about eight billion questions and remains largely baffled, but he did hit me with a tuning fork which gave some very surprising results and ended up underlining my need to get a hearing test ASAP, so I guess I will simply have to pony up the dough to go to a private audiology clinic, ugh. I might be going deaf in my right ear! But I probably don't have an aneurysm, at least. And my bloodwork came back good, which is nice to know, since it's been about a decade since I've had that checked. Low iron, but that's always been true. My mom hates this doctor because he was the one who first told her she had cancer and was kinda weird and morbid about it, but idk, I think he's pretty cool and disarming. Maybe it's a millennial thing.

Went out for my brother's birthday dinner after all that, ate way too much, had a good time. It suddenly occurs to me that I may have forgotten the leftovers in the van, and it is no longer cold enough outside for natural refrigeration, so I should probably put on a shirt and go get those! This is why keeping a daily-ish journal is helpful, people!

it's the forbidden superman!

Wikipedia Sez: Illinois (styled Sufjan Stevens invites you to: Come on feel the Illinoise on the cover; sometimes spelled as Illinoise) is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens. It features songs referencing places, events, and persons related to the U.S. state of Illinois. Illinois is Stevens' second based on a U.S. state—part of a planned series of fifty that began with the 2003 album Michigan and that Stevens has since acknowledged was a joke. It was adapted into a musical, Illinoise, in 2023 and, after playing smaller venues, opened at the St. James Theatre on Broadway in April 2024.

Genre: Pop/Rock

Styles: Alternative/Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Americana, Indie Rock, Indie Folk

Release Date: July 4th, 2005

Prior Familiarity: Sure!

What I Did While Listening: Started unfucking my room a bit, godDAMN can things get out of hand swiftly during my work weeks.

Verdict: I find this particular cutesy/winky/omgsoquirky mode of Sufjan's to be much more palatable in small doses, like singles and LPs and not 75-minute epics with titles like A Conjunction of Drones Simulating the Way in Which Sufjan Stevens Has an Existential Crisis in the Great Godfrey Maze, but I broke it up and listened to it in chunks and it was very good that way.

Favourite Song: Chicago, obviously, or "Go! CHICAGO! Go! Yeah!", as it is listed on the vinyl.
