[0023] halt, order, dismiss

A quick update today as the sun goes down (at four thirty, ugh, winter). How is my week off already half over??

On Tuesday, we had ice cream cake because it was the last day of one of the service advisors, and we all gathered around her desk right at the end of the shift to say goodbye, and I realized that, while I miss the tight-knit family feel of my tire shop days, it was probably only our physical distance from the dealership proper that gave us that; just because we're all spread out throughout this massive, bustling service department doesn't actually mean there are a LOT of us working together now (especially with the split shifts), and all of us gathering in one little corner of the giant drive-thru once all the customers had fucked off for the night really drove that home. It was nice.

Anyway.

Wikipedia Sez: Zombie is a studio album by Nigerian Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti. It was released in Nigeria by Coconut Records in 1976, and in the United Kingdom by Creole Records in 1977. The album criticised the Nigerian government; and it is thought to have resulted in the murder of Kuti's mother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and the destruction of his commune by the military. (JESUS)

Prior Familiarity: Pretty much none! Fela Kuti is one of those names that people in circles that talk about 'culture' a lot toss around like it's a household one but never ever come up in real life? At least not mine. So this feels like an important part of SOME sort of canon to visit.

What I Did While Listening: Folded a bit of laundry. Cleaned the bathroom a bit. Took out the trash. Tried to distract myself from the looming start of Full Gear (OH MY GOD I'M NOT READY)

Verdict: Oh my god, something about horrific military and governmental abuses should not make me wanna dance so much?? This is amazing. Also it's 53 minutes long with only four songs, THAT'S JAZZ, BABY.

Favourite Song: The title track.

Okay, fuck, 15 minutes to Full Gear, someone tell me I'm gonna be okay.

I think I will go for a walk and get the mail.

Should also probably order food at some point before I get too lost in the sauce (the sauce is wrestling, I wanna be stone cold sober for this one).
